So my parents decided that I need to get the K2 thing straightened out before they will pay for any more college, which really ticks me off because college WAS my plan away from K2 and I even worked out a deal with my psychdoc where I'll keep track of anything and everything I use down to the ocassional beer with dinner. He's even kind of come around to me trying shrooms as long as I'm not stupid about it (he made a joke asking who would pee in who's mouth if me and my best friend initial L did them together--I had to correct him that these were psilocybe we're talking about, heh).
The idea would be that we kind of accept that I smoke weed once and a while and just avoid K2 like the plague (since spice is SUPER addictive to me and doesn't really give me the enjoyable effects of weed).
If next semester goes well, all is good, keep on track! Otherwise, I'll spend a large part of next summer in a proper rehab. I'm fully confident in my ability to do this, and we've focused on putting together an exciting semester and one where rather than dwell on bad things (i.e. do AA and whatnot), just fully embrace life again and work to positively occupy myself with positive things. I've got about a year and a half of missed life to make up on, and I think getting more involved in my fraternity and doing more service work with another group I'm involved in will be good. I even took an officer position with an honor society, which I'm really excited about!
My parents are even finally starting to see alcohol and weed as "soft" drugs and are really principally concerned with my Spice/K2/Synthetics use. I think the fact that pointing out that they dole out hundreds every month buying me medical grade speed helped them see a little of that, but they also talked to a lady at a rehab who helped them see that K2 really is a hard drug, mortality rate and all. They pretty much even said weed/alcohol's on the backburner and we aren't even that worried about you not drinking at all... but before we try any of this again the K2 thing has to stop for good, which to them means rehab.
I actually begged for rehab to no avail during the deepest throes of my K2 addiction (which was the product of not caring about myself/school getting screwed up/my parents smothering me as well as the highly addictive nature of K2). Now it's rehab or no college/student loans.
The thing is, with all the time and money down the drain already, coupled with the fact I'm going straight for my PhD after this, means that with interest on the loans accruing during 5-7 years of grad school (albeit no payments due), the amount owed will be about double by the time I can even start paying it. Triple or quadruple is not out of the question if I need to do a postdoc. So, be babysat at 22 now/bend over, or bend over x3 down the line when I should be starting a family, settling into a tenure track job, looking at a house and instead I'm working on 100 grand in loans.
I'm honestly thinking though, for my mental health and my family's (as well as for their retirement accounts), that I need to pull the plug and just seek out loans/do porn/save more money/spend less money. I had the REVALATION today that everything that went bad in my life wasn't due at all to drugs, at least directly: it all goes to me losing my cocky confidence and feeling of usefulness/autonomy. Ever since I got thrown in and basically abused in a psych ward for about 50 days about 2 years ago, I've just felt like a 13 year old again. I can't own a gun, I've got "schizophrenoform" on my record from them treating me for a drug I have yet to try still (shrooms), and I've essentially been auditioning to get my life back from my parents (who themselves hold me in contempt for "needing" babysitting).
In fact, the less of my life was left up to me (or even allowed to be left up to me), the worse I got and the more miserable I've become. So on one hand I'm tempted to go to a couple weeks of rehab, waste one of the last breaks I have in college/miss Christmas and all that, have that I went to rehab on my record too, or just take this as a chance to say "F Off" and TAKE my life back. I'm a vidid, highly intellectual, exciting person who was cocky to the point of it being cutely arrogant but also strong and good with words, to where I'd be the guy that you can cry to and won't be judged, who would always listen, etc. I haven't been that since the psych hospital and it isn't cause of drugs... I think I lost a sense of control in my life that I need so much.
And now my mom and dad pulled the "I'm going to take care of myself/go to AlAnon" card and gave me an ultimatum: rehab ASAP or you're on your own for college. When I answered "yes" to the rehab lady that I'd been feeling suicidal but told her that I didn't need to be committed or anything, it wasn't that serious", she hung up on me and when I had my mom call her back, she apparently gave my mom reports of me being manipulative to her. It's almost like people in recovery have an arsenal to use against people or addicts they talk to and that seems to be one. One of the few good things I got from AA is the realization that nobody is perfect, even everyone else, and that just cause I'm the one with the spice problem doesn't make me wrong all the time or any less smart (although the latter part is almost purely out of luck).
Like, EVERYTHING in my life has seemed to line me up for *not* doing rehab (I got hit by a car and in ANOTHER INCIDENT broke my leg skateboarding 2 days after I filed medical withdraw to go to rehab, so instead of rehab I started that week with 2 bottles of vicodin lol).
Maybe this is the time in my life to say "initial J, time to man up, take on the loans, and be done with your parents". I'd feel better about myself not feeling like a parasite, and really what's missing in me between them and now isn't some void I'm filling with drugs (that's boredom from being deprived intellectually not being in my college environment). What's missing is my sense of adventure, individuality, and autonomy. And you can't have much of that when you're being treated like a 22-year-old teenager.
Anyone go through anything similar? How'd things work out?
How'd you end up paying for it? I've considered doing porn or starting a nootropics business when I get back in shape because I already work part time and do school full time (normally).
More importantly, how was your relationship with your parents after that? They caged a tiger in my case, and more time in the cage or on a leash is bad. Owing tens of thousands to banks isn't exactly freedom either though, or maybe humanity is past that.
Thoughts?

I had a plan lined up to smoke weed/drink socially in moderation next semester and avoid Spice/K2/JWH stuff like the plague, succeed, and go on with my life. If I still have problems, next summer I start at rehab and it'll be great. Now my parents have said do rehab over this break starting in like 2 days or we're done paying for your college. And taking out loans is death for me. But I'm not going to be complete as a person with my family squeezing me by the balls financially either.
