Yup the jade in the corner I am working to barter with for the world gathering in mexico on the solstice.

The jade is pretty dark, but in the sun its got a nice color. The lighter green sstuff is Idocrase sourced from Pulga ca, the tigers eye i gave to a friend for her birthday.

Cutting stone is awesome.

I have some cut topaz and amethyst. They were a gift so I have no idea how much they are worth. The rest of my collection is either tumbled or encased in fiberglass resin.

~edit~ if you are good at appraisal would you mind pricing them for me? I could get some pics.

any idea on the carat weight? Are there any visible flaws when looking at a light through them?

How does one measure carat weight? My electric scale is broken.
I noticed one very fine fissure within one of the amethysts, but other than that they appear flawless.

carat weight along with the clarity of the stone and the symetry of the facets are good indicators of a quality stone.

Look at them closely and see if the faces line up at the proper points.

Not sure how to measure carat weight. Presumably I need a sensitive scale, but mine got stepped on. I could weigh it at work but I won't be going back for another week.

Looking more closely, the facets are asymmetrical on all of the gems, but not by much. I know they were all cut by the same person.

I have a bunch of amazing, finely cut gemstones... but didnt put them in their own containers and many of them chipped:frown: If I can find any that arent broken I will try to get some nice macro shots.

i think i still have that piece. i need 40 for that one. i sell the rough material from 5-20 per pound depending on color saturation and quality. i have it in a few different forms. there's the sky blue like shown, an aqua blue that i've never seen before this year, purple/blue swirled storm cloud mix, a deep true electric blue, a flashy silver/purple/blue all mixed as one color, and a few other variations. i also sell rough cut slabs individually priced at 10-40 per pound. i dug this stuff all summer, and probably will again next summer since i got such good results. i was expecting 10% blue with the rest being black and other rainbow colors, but i ended up with close to 50% blue and a new variety.
what was really cool this year was me digging this color all summer and then going out to burning man an hour away where the city lighting was predominantly done in electric blue. i then proceeded to give away the blue(and other stones). i even made a giant spear point out of electric blue while i was there and left it on the temple altar to burn up on the last night. i made arrow points and gave them to the makers of kokopelli rising after their security kicked my ass. i had chest injuries from mining and chest injuries from burning man.

You do your own prospecting, nice. $40 seems like a fair price. I don't use paypal. What should we do?
