I was surprised by the .1 mg thing, but then I read that you were talking about IV dosage. Smallest I have seen is .5 pills but those are for sublingual. This is for a 65 pound kid with epilepsy. Typically he takes 2 mg.


It's my fault that you're surprised; I wasn't exactly clear with that post.

In the ER we tend to push ativan in 1 mg increments, though there is often a "loading dose" that is higher than that, but that's adults and that's trauma in an emergency setting (and also 90% of the people you encounter in that setting have no benzo tolerance.  When you encounter tolerance it can be quite a crapshoot especially if the patient is unconscious - luckily benzos generally aren't indicated for unconscious people, thank goodness, but the conscious ones still have a very annoying tendency to lie about drug use).

I've been vacationing but just before taking some time off I spent a lot of time in the NICU where .1 mg increments were standard for most things we'd administer.  Some drugs had to be titrated down to micrograms, but that was generally only with the very rare and expensive drugs (biologics/peptides).

Sorry for mixing up an order of magnitude there.  The funny thing about ativan is that among different people you actually tend to find that tolerance naturally varies among unexposed people by about an order of magnitude, so I guess I wasn't completely off the mark, just mostly!

And I hope the OP is still metabolizing and all that good stuff ... also hoping that the OP decides that there are better things to do with his time than to troll, even though it seems this post wasn't a "true" troll-post.

I have mixed feelings about that response, just because it makes me think about Ripper.  Weren't there folks who were trying to alert the authorities but ran into ambivalence from first responders the night he died? 

I'd re-read the transcript to check, if it didn't make me feel so damn awful even thinking about it....

I guess I'm glad I wasn't in the chat that night, but it's hard to avoid thinking "what if?"

Edit; I misread "his shit" as "this shit" , so my entire post might be completely irrelevant.  oops.
