I'd advise to stay off of facebook or twitter for a week or so surrounding the 21st, or find a way to filter out 2012 posts

Absolutely nothing. 2012 is just a niche people have exploited to make money and sell books and everyone has jumped on the bandwagon. As much as I would like something revolutionary to happen business as usual is pretty much the definitive outcome.
