Dogs and Straw

I am ready to start some bulk prep, including some straw. I saw in the teks that they recommend the straw be cut up into 3 inch pieces. I am not really in the mood to cut up a bunch of straw but I have access to a whole lot of straw that has been shreded by dogs using it as bedding. Its all about the right size/consistency but would the fact that it has been exposed to the elements and to dogs make it impractical or stupid to use?

Pasteurization should take care of that, I mean people add poop to their straw and spawn that. Somehow I doubt anything a dog would add to the mix could be any worse. Maybe wait for some additional opinions, but sounds like you're fine...

You should be all set so long as the straw isn't moldy or compacted or something. As far as bacterial contams, don't worry about them. Straw is about as dirty as it will get, a dog won't make it worse.

If you are looking to buy, arts and crafts stored sell it pre-shredded in little mini-bales, to my experience are good enough to spawn more than the average grower will use for a while.
