Random thread bump that I can get behind. How about a bit more jazz that isn't older than my dad (not that there's anything wrong with that, but everyone knows Coltrane and Miles and Diz and Bird and etc.)

Robert Glasper and Christian Scott are my two favorites right now I would say.

Christian Scott:

The one time I saw him live his guitar player did basically nothing, it was really disappointing. The guy can play too, I dunno what was up.

New Pat Metheny album is pretty tight:

Chris Potter is so good.

I saw someone mention Pat Metheny--I could watch this video a million times. Lyle Mays in particular is an incredible musician.

If I wanna watch Lyle play, I'm gonna throw on this The Way Up live shit. So fucking good.
Honestly Metheny can be pretty hit or miss for me. He's obviously amazing (along with the people he plays with), but some of it is just too cheesy. The Way Up is perfection though. Sanchez, Lyle, Metheny, they all kill it on that album.


That's part one, you can find the rest if you are so inclined through the related videos. I wish they would re-up it as one video (this was put up when Youtube had the 10 minute limit) because it's so damned good.

Also, I would love to see Metheny's closet. He wears that same god damned black and white striped shirt ALL THE TIME.

Edit: In particular, this little section (about 6:29-8:11 the end of part 2) is fucking incredible I think.

I own that DVD that that's from.  Great purchase I must say!  Saw him with Brad Mehldau 4 years ago or so.  Incredible.

Man I really wish I could have seen The Way Up live. I've only seen him play once, at Newport Jazz Fest the one time I went. He wasn't on the bill, but Roy Haynes was one of the headliners and it was a big bash kinda deal, I think it was Haynes' 80th birthday or something, so there were a ton of guest artists and Metheny was one of them (in that fucking black and white striped shirt).

Hell yeah dude, Glasper is so fucking amazing, and same with his drummer Chris Dave.



Dat feel.  A couple years ago at our annual jazz fest Glasper's trio came out to the late night jam, and Glasper was playing drums and Chris Dave was on keys, it was wild, they were both pretty heavy on different instruments too.
