Blues is my favorite genre of music without a doubt. Funk, reggae and jazz are tied at the second spot. Unfortunately I cant post or watch videos from this thing.

Dope jazz track.

And this.  The drums are meant to represent the African roots down south and the twanged out guitar represents southern white folk.  At the climax shit gets heated between the two.  The guitar is being totally clawed at and sqealing, fed up.  Lots of emotion exchanged between the two.  And the drum beat that drops after the intro is so ill.

Yeah man I love Astor Piazzolla.  Tango del Muerte.. I forget the actual track title.  I used to listen to a lot of him.

What's your opinion on Christian Scott?  That track I just posted.  Or this one.

someone more well-versed in jazz might see this as the mark of a novice, but the only jazz i've developed enough of an appreciation for to actually listen to much are the classics...miles, coltrane, thelonious, etc...

here's an upload (in its entirety) of the first jazz album i ever got into and one of the few i will still put on now and then

here's an even more obvious jazz album to post, but i can't resist since it's the full album as well, plus its great:

he sounds a lot like miles, but his horn looks like Dizzy's.

The percussionist is SICK.

As a trumpet player, I do not like how he blares certain tones.  He has a great range.  He also sticks to the scales we all learn when beginning.

The guitar player just came in, and he rocks...

reminds me of this guitar player (yes it is cheesy to play Chuck Mangione, but he is a friend of the family)

around 5:22 the guitar starts...

Then listen to the Children of Sanchez...  The percussionist was 14 at the time of this recording...

A Love Supreme is fucking epic.  Nothing amateur about loving that.  Resolution is my jam.  Fucking incredible.  I used to chill with Art Davis, who played with a bunch of legends.  He played on a couple alternate takes from A Love Supreme.  Damn cool dude.  Though he did steal my debut issue of Traps because I mentioned to him that his work with Max Roach was briefly discussed inside.   Can't hate.  He deserved it.\

And yeah Jim, that guitarist is the man.  His name is Matt Stevens.  I've been studying a number of his solos lately.  Really effective soloist and I love his style.  I will check out those tracks you posted tomorrow AM, I need to hit the sack.  Been a hellish day.  Had to put my dog of 11 1/2 years down...  Only reason I'm still up.

Peace guys, hope to have some more good music to check out in this thread when I wake up.

the jazz fans approve of my selections. this pleases me. people complain about jazz snobs but to tell the truth i don't think i've ever met one. then again i don't often meet jazz enthusiasts on a day to day basis...they couldn't have been the first ones to go by the name "hipster" for nothing though :pimp3: :jazzman:

i'd like to stay and pretend i was too familiar with or had cultivated an appreciation for much more jazz, but i'd be lying so i'll just say veni vidi vici and quit while i'm ahead amigos

The alto sax and guitar feeding off of one another is amazing

that was sick.

i agree

Dude this tune is PHENOMENAL.  The alto player sounds a LOT like Kenny Garrett.  Speaking of which:

tony iommi is a legend to me. many people dont understand jazz was the roots for his heavy metal creativity.

if it wasnt for jazz there very well could of been no heavy metal.

dude kicks some serious ass

I always liked Spirogyra.

The Duke of Beaufoot is not at home today.

He's very tired he thought he'd go away.

You wait for him, your eyes are on the door,

you know no other way.

The Duke of Beaufoot is very kind to cats.

Keeps them in his cellar to help him catch his rats.

He's very noble and his lineage is pure

but you, you're a whore.

The Duke of Splendour just wasn't much amused

and now you knew you'd been abused.

If you'd had help you might have buggered up his fuse

but alone you're too confused.

"He picked me up

I was on the street.

He made it clear he would use me.

My parents died, I was three years old,

I had to make a living.

Close your eyes...

Close your eyes...

In a lot of ways

I am close to him,

though he may seem to ignore it.

I'm sure he cares, at least I think he does.

It's just he's very busy.

Close your eyes...

Close your eyes...

Here's today, says the telegraph

It's the world, it's the world

Gone away on a phonograph

Riding high, riding high

There's a way says the cenotaph

You will find, you will find

Gone in search of an epitaph

Running wild, running wild"

You saw them coming forward

asking you to be kind.

You couldn't face their council,

they were men full of greed.

In your position nothing's sacred

you have only the wine.

"You stand alone

but not alone in your loneliness,

and yet there must be more

I can't believe that all has been in vain."

If there is it's be sure of friendship

as the hours grow long.

Rest assured that this phase is passing,

give yourself a chance.
