Is this a rhetorical question or do you really want to know? And by the same token you would abolish the senate and just have the house? The electoral college subsidizes the politically disenfranchised who live in minority states.

It would be, like, hella complicated to get rid of the electoral college. And AFAIK it generally reflects the popular vote, with two exceptions in the history of the US.

Still though, it's wonky, and 2000 really wasn't a mark in its favor. My vote is different because I live in California than it would be if I lived in a swing state.

I find that many times people deriding the electoral college are really complaining about the winner take all system most states have. Weighted electoral votes would count every persons vote while still subsidizing minority states.

it's kinda meant to equalize the weight of the various states with some goofy formula or something.

something tells me none of it matters though for many, many reasons. 1)electronic voting is probably insanely easy to rig/manipulate/defraud
2) your votes don't count because you don't count the votes
3) voting is a purely symbolic vestige of the relic that was once the USA. We now live in a mulicultural marxist global village one world government and this is all a dog and pony show until the rest of the baby boomers and gen xers and yers die off so any memory dies with them

You know what else is dumb? Amendments. Especially amendments that can be broken by just crossing a few miles into international waters. In which case a fucking person can be tortured, murdered, etc.

I don't even know how charges are filed on stupid shows like Wale wars. It seems to me like those people could pretty much kill each other. It's when they return to their country that they seem to get in trouble.

Which is funny because 'our country' could go right now with a fucking boat and go shoot someone in the face on another boat. The votes dont matter. The whole election process is bullshit. The candidates are just a bunch of puppets/actors putting on a show for the public. They dont run shit. They basically like the public relations for the real people in power behind the scenes. They just want us to feel like we have a say in things like we're supposed to, when really we dont matter at all. This world is ran by the top rich and elite they could care less what we think

The actual reason: In the Senate where the small states are over represented, the Senators would always block any bill that would try to abolish the electoral college. Even if it could pass the house, it wouldn't ever pass the Senate.

An idea that is gaining some ground is the national popular vote

Not enough states support it yet though, but when enough do it can make the winner of the electoral votes always be the same as the winner of the popular votes.
