Alas, it isn't my picture, here's one I took when I got to a nice SAFE distance! these cows are fine but there was two fat massive black cows that looked like they would eat me.

I've had a few encounters with snakes and coyotes in my area managed to snap a shot of 1 coyote it followed me and my girl for about 20 min they are pretty fun to call in

Coyotes are punk-ass bitches anyway. Even looking in their direction is enough to frighten them off most times :lol:

I stumbled upon two bucks with huge racks in Rock Creek Park back in July. Kinda cool because the park is in the middle of Washington DC. kinda scary when one started stomping his feet.

I've recently been volunteering for 5 hours every week with the Florida Park Service hunting wild boars. We didn't get any this week or last; however, my friend (Americorps park ranger) killed 3 since last tuesday....

Why do I volunteer? I was about 2 or 3 miles into this oak hammock, and I ran into an entire family- 2 or 3 huge ones (about up to my waist!) and a few little ones... Scared the shit out of me.

Working on my hunting permit atm. Buying a rifle soon.

I want them GONE.

Shit.  Forgot about the craziest wildlife encounter and it happened in my backyard. A black bear. Our neighbor called one  evening and said "there's a bear climbing the fence." I only saw it running for a second before it was gone. About an hour before, someone had reported the bear a few blocks away, our neighborhood was the second sighting. This bear became huge news for weeks as it wandered around the area. Every night, there were updates on the news as to its last location. The post ran a bunch of articles. Our neighbors were interviewed on local TV.

Oh dear Lord, please don't remind me about THAT aspect of wildlife. Wearing brown during hunting season is never a wise decision. :eek:

Snakes can be mean, but at least their venoms have antidotes. Gunshot wounds are much harder to deal with.

I saw a wild boar in 2010. It was fortunately on the other side of a fence, but that thing was, I swear to God, 3-3 1/2 ft. long and it looked like it weighed at least 100 lbs. I really wish I would have had my camera then.

I dont know if this counts but i was biking to one of my hunting grounds out on my property and I turned the corner and hit a deer... with my bike. Needless to say we both freaked out.

I almost hit a cow once, on a blind curve at about 2 am.  He was just standing there all nonchalant, couldn't be bothered.  I've also been hit by 2 deer kamakazis.

As far as dangerous wildlife is concerned, last I meet was 2 cops in a field, they did not attack me but sent me to the court to see another predator, i think his name was called a judge...

In Georgia, during mushroom hunting season, It's best to be home before dark. My experience with snakes is that they run away from you. I had some buddies that were out after dark, heard some coyotes, and one guy makes a coyote call back. The story is that they all had to climb a tree because a pack of coyotes approached them.

IME, the worst thing for me as far as wildlife goes are insects. Huge swamp mosquitoes, fleas that carry tapeworm, spiders and such, and the worst- seed ticks. These are very small, very young ticks that have not molted yet. Some people call them the devil's spawn, they wait for you in tall grass, sometimes in the thousands. They can go right through your socks and the bites are painless at first- until you are covered in them. Then they turn into blisters that itch so bad that without some hydrocortisone or prescription steroid cream you will scratch your skin off. I've had some really nasty encounters this season, and both my feet and ankles are scarred from past experiences. The bites also last for weeks, sometimes months. The trick is to carry wide tape. as soon as you feel something, check, you'll see what looks like a swarm of dirt crawling up your leg. They are no larger individually than the period at the end of this sentence. You throw the tape down and rip it off, sometimes I've had wall to wall ticks covering the whole surface of the tape. when its really bad you'll get about a thousand on you, and if you go to scratch or anything they get all over your hand, then they are quickly moving up your leg and arm. Before you know it, they are all over you. In cases like this I have had to run home, wait for flea shampoo to be delivered, and cover my whole body in it. No choice but to suffer for weeks after this!

I am not sure if I believe that, but coyotes did kill some singer chick in Canada last year.

Those aren't ticks, they are chiggers.

You can keep them away with lots of DEET.  You don't apply the DEET like you normally do for mosquitoes, you put it around your shoes, legs, socks, waist and neck, any opening in the clothing.

They like low elevation areas.  In Mexico they disappear above 1400 meters.
