Best way to tell is with a microscope:wink:

--------------------
Having lived through an existence close to nature, one accepts the small and simple things as most important in life. Sun, wind, rain and snow. The sounds birds make, smells of fresh wild flowers. Love of all kinds, from friends and family, thy self and our neighbors. Beautiful sunrises to the darkest clouds dancing above in the sky. To forgive, learn, share and express. This is the only thing a man such as myself can ask for. What comes as the result is nothing short of the core of human existence, to truly live free in body and mind.

Fresh out of those man lol. I need a way to tell by the eye. I'm getting it, but still not quite.

There's loads of pins coming through of definite strictipes. Not sure how long they're going to take to mature. It's raining today, so maybe a couple days?

Images added.

Spore print on the way.

Suspected lookalikes are Panaeolus acuminatus.

Gill shots like the last one are the most useful photos in this case. If you can do that for the first batch it should be easy to tell.

Damn man I knew it! This is so shit.. What luck.. I find a tiny patch of awesome little strictipes and these silly Pans are growing ev-ree far-king WHERE!

So Specimens A (suspected strictipes) look like strictipes to you? It's hardly any difference in the cap! only slightly variation in colour (slightly lighter tan, ever so slight white ring around base and a translucent nipple like tip)

I'll get you some Close up gill shots of all the suspected Strictipes.

Hold tight.

p.s just read that P.acuminatus is active!?
p.s.s It also says that they grow on manure? this field has no manure. It is adjacent to fields with manure in it, but this field is more of an unattended meadow.

It isn't active. It could be a similar Panaeolus, but in any case the field will be awash with manure.

When it says small does it mean trace? as in it wouldn't matter how many you ate, you wouldn't feel anything?

Pretty much that, and anyway those chemicals on wiki are not like psilocybin.

Damn. I'm not sure the first mushroom in that post is the same as the others - it is the likeliest candidate. If you spore print these we will be closer to an answer, because we could hopefully rule out more Pans. (I cannot offer to scope anything reliably for you until I get a new reticule and at least one new lens if not a whole new kit.)

Haha like I said CONFUSING!

Spore prints in progress. Some have already dropped spores and it's looking black :feelsbadman:

I'm looking for purple hints and brown right?

p.s

I got told off today :frown: two girls told me to move along out of their fields because it was private property.. I went and asked the land owner if I could search for mushrooms there but he said he couldn't allow it because of health and safety liabilities (horses might eat me or something..............) and that I could sue him (which of course I said I wouldn't) He was a nice man but oh well. Not much to do about it.

I'm definitely going back to my little patch of strictipes though in a few days when all those pins mature!

Yes, brown-purple and not grey-black.

not only are you on a pointless quest to id a strictipes, you arent even picking Psilocybes! they all look like Pan acuminatus.

with out a scope theres NO way to tell a P semi and a P strictipes  apart, so they are all just liberty caps until you can spend the time to scope out all the different lib varieties.

i keep saying, the last confirmed strictipe weve seen here was growing in the mountains of Ari-fucking-zona on woody debris not in a pasture!!

there is alot of stuff we dont know about this species , its not as cut and dry as a book would let you think.

The first few pics are a Psilocybe, semilanceata or strictipes probably.  You also have some Panaeolus acuminatus in your pics.  The Panaeolus will be easy to separate without a spore print because it is much more fragile than the Psilocybe.

Looks like you printed the Panaeolus and not the Psilocybe.  I guarantee you that the mushrooms in your first pics will print dark purple brown.

Nothing wrong with eating them if you want.  There are no toxic black spored mushrooms (except for Coprinopsis atramentaria if you drink alcohol).

The only toxic purple-brown spored mushroom is Hypholoma fasciculare.  Since you don't have any of that, you'll be fine.

And maybe discover a new active Panaeolus.

I'm afraid not man. I printed ALL the mushrooms bro. Every single print is black.

The first mushrooms you posted will not give a black print.  They aren't Panaeolus.

I don't know what to say :X... I have them printing again just to clarify. I have the exact same mushrooms and they are printing on a white card paper this time. I also chucked a section out of one of Specimen A into some agar.

Man this is confusing stuff. Alas.. I won't be going back to that patch till sunday. Will the pins I saw developing be mature by then? It rained HEAVY today.

It would be cool if you could get some pics of the microscopic features...

Hmm.. is there a cheap microscope I can buy? around 50 quid?? that would be sufficient?

Cheers
