Got the classics passed down from my pops, all original from the year they were released:

Piper at the Gates of Dawn
Dark Side of the Moon
Wish You Were Here
Abbey Road
Revolver
Workingman's Dead
American Beauty
Blues for Allah
Axis: Bold as Love

And some more recent ones that I bought:

Nevermind
Bleach
Deltron 3030
The Chronic

My most recent is Prince Rama's "Shadow Temple".  It's some truly psychedelic stuff in the realm of eastern-influenced mysticism.  When I found out it was 2 chicks from Brooklyn, I was surprised!

In my opinion, the sound captured on vinyl is half the fun! Listening to music the way it was intended to be recorded and heard is quite the expeirence. I prefer that over the digital remasterization..takes the band out of the band!

Why does vinyl have to be considered "the way it was intended to be heard"? I don't see why an artist would intend for their music to be distorted through some shitty record/speakers so the song sounds nothing like it does live. I'll take a CD over a record any day, in fact, I'd take a CD over an iPod and all the free music I could download as well. Nothing can touch the sound quality of a CD.

I have no problem with people who thoroughly who love records and enjoy the old school sound/feeling, but to say the music is better that way or intended to sound that way is just silly IMO.

Well, if you can get master tapes, those (in theroy) sound better. Haven't been mixed to sound good unlike a record or cd, but a master tape has a refresh rate of 48khz. CD's are 44.1khz. Now, there's nothing stopping CD audio being 48khz, but record companies didn't want consumers having audio quality as good as the master tape.

Personally, from having listened to live concerts, records, cd's and my own playing I can tell that live is best, but that's only on played instruments/vocals. Electronic music doesn't suffer the microphone/other distortion that sound engineers spend so much of their career twiddling to sound better. I knew a guy who'd just take his tracker made tracks, turn them into 16 bit 44.1khz pcm audio, and then take them to a record press to get converted. He'd even make dubplates of mp3's turned to PCM audio then taken to the cutting lathes. It's weird hearing MP3 artifacts on a vynil pressing.

Also, some studio sessions sound better than live, and given the choice between a live recording, or a studio recording, I'll go for the studio one every time, except for the daft punk Alive! 2007 album.

I'm now a 100% vinyl convert, given the fact that the release was pressed to vinyl. I love the physical format. I love placing the needle down, seeing it spin as it rotates.

I love the size of vinyl, the collector's aspect, and the intimate setting of taking the time to get the music on the table and playing.

I'm not an audiophile whatsoever, so the "sounds better" debate is moot, in my personal experience.

I can play CDs through my surround sound and it's amazing.  With my record player, I'm limited to my 2 nice tower speakers.  I've listened to the same albums on both and vinyl just isn't as clear.  Could just be my set-up.  CDs go in my car.

If all vinyl came with a download code, I'd be happy!

If I buy vinyl and it doesn't come with a download card, I have no qualms downloading it off a torrent site.

Neither do I but I'm often buying some pretty obscure/unknown stuff and I just can't find a torrent.

I wouldn't say I collect vinyl I've managed to accumulate a fair bit over the years though.

Some off the top of my head:

Hendrix - Band of Gypsys, Soundtrack Recordings from the film Jimi Hendrix.

Beastie Boys - Aglio E Olio

Canned Heat - '70 Concert Live in Europe

G 'n' R - G 'n' R Lies, Apetite for Destruction

Pacific Gas & Electric - Get it On (Awesome album art!)

Black Sabbath - most of them (Ozzy years only).

The Police - Every Breath You Take.

Bob Dylan - Masterpieces.

The Beatles - 1967-70.

Deep Purple - 24 Carat Purple.

Stacks more, will update if I remember. :mushroom2:

I recently started buying vinyl. I think it sounds better. I hate CDs and MP3s and only use them in a car where I can't listen to a record. Just from yard sales over the last summer, I have:

Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Revisited
Jefferson Airplane - After Bathing at Baxters
Crosby, Stills, and Nash - Crosby, Stills, and Nash
The Beatles - 1966-1970 ("The Red Album")
Led Zep III
A few Eagles albums
And about 30 more

I might be able to get All The World's a Stage, Rush's first live album. That's where my username came from.

That's why I'll always have a turntable. I have a lot of albums that just aren't out there in any other format.

Pink Floyd - The Wall. HOLY SHIT! I never found myself too much of a fan for that album, but on a turntable it's a whole different story.

I really fucked up when I traded my speed metal records for black metal records. Lucky I kept my Kreator collection. I need to clean my collection. The stylus collects dust and the sound disintegrates. I fantasise about buying allot of P J Harvey, Bob Marley and The Cramps on vinyl. My idiot tendencies consisted of discarding various collections.
