You can't really get warping out (as far as I know) and even the records I have that are warped I still listen to anyway. Hopefully for you they aren't so bad! :super:

Actually you can.  You just need some pieces of glass and your oven.

http://www.wikihow.com/Fix-a-Warped-Vinyl-Record

I've done it and it works.

Whoa, I'll check this out. Thanks!

In my opinion, the sound captured on vinyl is half the fun! Listening to music the way it was intended to be recorded and heard is quite the expeirence. I prefer that over the digital remasterization..takes the band out of the band!

Why does vinyl have to be considered "the way it was intended to be heard"? I don't see why an artist would intend for their music to be distorted through some shitty record/speakers so the song sounds nothing like it does live. I'll take a CD over a record any day, in fact, I'd take a CD over an iPod and all the free music I could download as well. Nothing can touch the sound quality of a CD.

I have no problem with people who thoroughly who love records and enjoy the old school sound/feeling, but to say the music is better that way or intended to sound that way is just silly IMO.

"shitty?" Hell no.
The sounds that the original musicians made; the analogue effects they sought after. The quality gives it character. I have old recordings done by the original bands and their later remastered. I highly prefer the original because I think it has that CHARACTER...that imperfection.

The remastered versions are almost perfect. Why would I want to hear a super clean remastered Minor Threat, when I can hear more emotion and style in the old version? It's raw--it's real. Same thing can go for jazz--listening to an old Louis or Ella or Duke record is more personable than its perfected predecessor. Its what the musicians had to work with and, for them, that was enough.

I'm glad you have your preference for music sounds. But did you have to come in this thread with a negative comment like that? You couldn't have just simply stated that you appreciate remastered versions better?

And obviously if you think all music on records sound like shit, you haven't actually listened to any good music on a good turntable with good speakers.

:thumbup::thumbup:

i totally agree , i love the old raw shit too!! unfortunatly the wifey made my clean up all my collections and what she called hoarding, ! and most of my common records were craigslisted out. :frown: but i still have a few gems. i'll take pics of them.

cool thread! love the vinyl too! :headbanger:

Vinyl is also one of the only things I spend money on these days. The majority of my collection consists of stoner/doom metal, stoner rock, hardrock, some sludge, and some classic heavy metal/rock. I'd really like to get my hands on some more 70s psych-rock, like Captain Beyond, King Crimson, Sir Lord Baltimore, stuff like that. I am a huge fiend for anything heavy, retro, atmospheric or psychedelic. I don't understand why anyone would spend money on mp3's. I have a bunch of CD's as well, but vinyl sounds better and is the overall nicest package. Not to mention a lot of bands do really nice limited edition presses these days.

King Crimson! Some of my first tripping music was "Court of the Crimson King" on my Dad's Marantz. I still use the '72 Marantz amp but have updated the turntable to a Technics. Playing it through freshly coned JBL L112 speakers. Vinyl sounds damn good. I can pretty much pin the amp with vinyl on, a CD starts to break up around 70% volume.

I collect music. Records are just one (inferior) format from yesteryear to listen to records.

No I do not like listening to hissy, crackly records which I have to dust each time, and carefully drop my stylus arm down, lest I damage the extreeemely expensive Ortofon moving coil cartridge.

Hifi with records is masochism without the sexy leather clad girls.

WOW!  All those Mars Volta and Opeth!  Impressive!

And "cuber"... I collect the same genres.  Ufomammut puts out nice vinyl.  You can still find their album "Eve" on red wax if you don't have it already.  It's their finest, in my opinion.

HEADS UP ALL: Godspeed You! Black Emperor is dropping a new album in a couple weeks and it's being released on 180g LP + 7".  Neat, huh?

For the most part, I collect occult/folk/acoustic stuff on vinyl:  Sir Richard Bishop, Six Organs Of Admittance, John Fahey, James Blackshaw, Sean Smith, Ilyas Ahmed, etc.
