Strange gill structure
    #1679486 - 07/02/03 07:08 AM (20 years, 8 months ago)

Hi,
I was out in my garden with the dog, and found the following mushroom, with a pretty strange gill formation, not one i've seen before personally or on photos. Maybe some type of Inocybe or something. i've always had these in my garden but never got a definitive id.

Habitat:
temp : mid 20's
weather : the past few days have been a mixture of sunshine and rain. temp pretty consistent.
immediate habitat: at the base of very long grass. extremely wet.
spore print : what appears to be brown.

again, i'm not really looking for an id, it would be nice  but just curious about these strange gills. is it a mutant?

many thanks. mike

thanks for clearing that up mr. mushrooms, i'm clueless as to what it is myself.
I've been able to identify Hygrophorus Conicus, Hygrophorus Psittacinus, Panaeolus foenisecii in my garden but not this mystery!

Wow, that is really weird.

I have never seen something like that. The mushroom looks familiar, I am unsure on the ID. The temps are mid 20's in your region?! Geez...and I thought it was summer

yep 20 degrees celcius

after i'd taken the spore print, i decided to investigate the mushroom and cut the mutant gills with a scalpel. whats weird is that they were little hollow sacs not long gills.
i'll check the same patch to see if there's more mutant growth tomorrow.

Does no one else think it strongly resembles a Panaeolus mushroom, specifically subbalteatus? Possibly foensecii?

I think it looks like a Panaeolus. Given habitat, I would probably start with P. foenisecii.

Happy mushrooming!

I would say it looks more like a sub than foensecii.
