straw produces big but not alot and manure produces many but not big.
how true is that?
on average what do u guys get out of a hay and composted manure 50/50 lets say 2 square feet and 3" deep? complety dry
what is better ratio for useing straw and maunre? i currently use 50/50 is one better that the other or what?

Bogus.

Straw produces big and a lot.
Manure produces big and a lot.

If you are undecided, mix the two, and get the best of both worlds:

I must say that straw alone does produce very watery mushrooms. On average 8-9% dry matter.

daba how about the flushes.we made nearly 5 inch thick substrade with some manure and its nearly 50 cm square area.i will plan to birth the bowl in a rainbow gathering.

Creeper.

You can get a lot of flushes from straw and manure, or both. Just make sure you rehydrate them.

A friend of mine has some straw that is still going after 6 flushes; it's only 3'' deep.

5'' thick substrate will give you a lot of mushrooms. Make sure you cased it, and try to fruit it when the colonization is the most even for the most even pinset.

when you say 3:1 do you mean 3 straw and 1 manure or the other way around?....I'm doing straw at the moment..close to getting my first flush.....but I'd like to use manure as well in the future

there's no right answer. i've read that anno uses 90%straw, whereas road uses 100% horsepoo (which is mostly straw, unlike cowshit). me, i go for about three quarters straw, with poo to flavour.
