Manure/Straw Inoculation?
    #1455923 - 04/14/03 01:39 AM (13 years, 7 months ago)

I am going to be growing outside and live on a farm so I have access to straw and fresh manure. What I am wondering is if I have to have cakes ready to crumble up and put in with my manure/straw (like in the outdoor FAQ) or if I can just inoculate the manure and straw mixture on site using a syringe? Thanks for the help.

A syringe will leave you with little chance of success. If the spores germinate they may be overtaken by other organisms.

Alright, I guess I'll start out by making some PF cakes and then when I birth them put them in the ground.

And does anyone know, in the instructions it only says "straw" when talking about layering your new mushroom home, is this always talking about the wet straw? or do you use dry straw at all in the process?

Thanks again for the help.

use wet straw. I would soak it for an hour or two before using it.

mix the straw and poo together and pasturize or sterilize before spawning it with crumbled cakes...

Thanks for help. I was thinking of using either B+, Golden Teacher, or the Ecuador strain. Any suggestions on that.

And, are you saying I should mix the straw and manure together and then put it into a pressure cooker or boiling water before putting the cakes in? That seems awfully messy.

im just about to spawn poo with GT's and as an all around strain they seem to be the best-strong trips and easy fruiting.
