Quick Q Concerning Straw and Cow Manure
    #1392925 - 03/19/03 06:46 PM (21 years, 1 month ago)

Whats the exact relevance of adding straw when mixing your substrate with it and dung?

If I were to guess, its just to give the manure/substrate some volume and increase the amount of gas exchange somewhat.

Am I close to being correct? Is straw neccessary?

Thanks,

Yes.. straw makes the dung more airy and gives more structure. Plus mushrooms loooooove straw. It's not necessary but straw is great.
