Laptop for school?

Hey shroomery, I need suggestions for a school laptop. As it stand now I have a 17.1" gaming laptop that's more of a portable desktop than it is a laptop. The thing is bulky as hell but I can play a lot of pc games on and blah blah. I also have a watercooled pc, so...

I need a laptop with good battery power, one that is also lightweight, and still has some video capabilities in case I want to watch anime and browse the web. Does anyone have suggestions?  It needs to be somewhat affordable, and fuck apple with their recent lawsuit against Samsung so please no expensive apple product suggestions.

now that i'm in larger classrooms, i can't fucking stand laptops. they're distracting and half the time the people using them are fucking off on facebook or playing a game. great use of tuition money. what's wrong with using a pen and a spiral???? i have two laptops and a tablet and wouldn't think of carrying any of them around in public.

They have a place man theres no denying that. Not all classes though. It's nice for after class though. I prefer a notebook for notes though.

I would rather type my notes than write them since I type much faster than I can write and I can hardly read my own handwriting as it is.

Why bother posting in my thread if the only shit you're gonna say is derogatory?  First I can type at 140+ wpm, so taking notes is ridiculously faster compared to my 20wpm handwriting. Secod ive got two hours between each class to finish my homework, and all assignments must be TYPED and PRINTED.  So before going around and being stupid and saying things that you know nothing about because you can't afford a laptop, just don't post.

it mostly just bothers me when they're screwing off on them. when you're in those big amphitheater type classrooms you can see everything that's going on. i get wanting to have a notebook or tablet handy for just doing work outside of class but i also i don't blame teachers who outright ban them in class.

my first day of geology last week i had a bro sitting a few rows in front of me looking at body building websites, farting (i'm certain it was him) and generally acting obnoxious. rather than actually hear what my professor was trying to say, which did affect me today, i had to entertain the thought of what it would be like to put an axe into this waste of carbon's skull for robbing me of the classroom time i'm paying for.

Are you sure of that?  I can type over 60wpm without making grammatical errors and even that is pretty darn fast.  You'd be typing over two words a second.  That doesn't sound right to me.

I type per dictation as one aspect of the work I do regularly, but I still have to stop my boss every once in a while to catch up.  People can talk pretty damn fast, and to keep up with that without stopping them is a feat.
