Yikes...I am prescribed these motherfuckers and used to take them...no more.

And this is tied to using them as little as 18 times per year, that would probably be a lot less often than the average prescribed user uses them.

Thanks for trying to derail a completely legitimate thread.

This makes me really happy that I stopped taking them...but for some people this becomes a quality of life issue. Life starts to become pretty shitty when you can't sleep.

Trust me sleeping pills don't really help with that long term...I was prescribed Ambien last December and have only taken them off and on since then.  I stopped around May, and made a final decision never to take them almost never again after reading this article.

Even with such limited use, I've had this sort of head-numb feeling that has still not gone away...it would be especially noticeable when I woke up the next morning.  It's like a very, very dull sort of numb feeling, and it makes it hard for me to focus on things that used to be a breeze.

No attempt at derailment, just pointing out how weird that concept of increasing the risk of dying is.

I'm glad I've never had to take pharms like this as a band-aid solution to a problem, they seem to do more harm than good.

These meds do nothing good for people. Like you said it's just a band aid. People need to work on the real issues, such as lack of exercise, poor diet, etc

Why is it such a weird concept? It's true that as you age your risk of dying at any given moment approaches 100%, but that doesn't mean that at any given age you have a certainty of death.

Everyone will die yes, but it is not "weird" to examine what your risk of death is at a given point in your life, it is prudent for people that want to continue living.

Thanks man, you basically fought that battle for me.  Of course our chances of dying someday are 100% but our chances of dying RIGHT THIS SECOND are up for speculation.

Chances of dying from sleeping pills is probably so high because people that don't sleep well are unfit and overweight.

Sleeping is tough for me but if i sneak in 3-4 nights a month with really good sleep it makes up for the nights I only sleep 3-5

Sleeping pills lead to overweight and diabetic issues, anti depressents due the same thing along with some major changes/halts to brain structure.

Ambien hits the GABA receptors in the same way as benzodiazepines, barbiturates, or more distantly, alcohol and GHB do.  It's not technically a benzodiazepine because of the structure, but the effect is almost identical in practice.

Careful with the benzos though, you're likely to black out and wind up in jail if you're reckless.  Ambien is like the crack version of xanax.  Hits faster, hits harder, much shorter duration.

Really?  I've actually tripped on Ambien before.  I have a prescription before.  Needless to say I won't be doing it again but it was pretty cool.

So Xanax is pretty much just like that?

Well, all benzos differ from each other, and ambien has it's own unique undertones, but overall it's similar.  A quarter of an ambien pill would be about equal to your average recreational xanax dose for someone without tolerance.  More than that and you're liable to forget your night.

I took 40 mg Ambien one time and remembered my night pretty well...about the first half that is.
