Our technology will take us far our imaginations will take us. You dont seem to have one.

Have a nice boring life in which nothing is possible :lolsy:

Yea, that must be it.  Just like imagine it bro, and it will happen.  Mr. Rodgers told me so.

I think you misunderstand the whole point...If you spend your days dreaming of the impossible, you'll do nothing...if you spend your days dreaming of things that are possible...you might actually accomplish something.

You watched Mr Rogers :lolsy:

SHit just doesnt happen out of thin air. Brilliant minds tend to look to the future and
imagine possibilities. Where would we be without the Tesla's or all of thos smart Mfers from
way back in the day?? We have made giant strides in the last 150 years and there is absolutely
no reason to believe we have reached some kind of fuckin climax of technology. How sheltered to
believe so :laugh2:

If I spend all my time dreaming about the future then yes I probably wont go too far
as IM NOT A FUCKIN SCIENTIST/INVENTOR ETC.

Some people are so fucking black and white with shit. Stick to law. I guess its what you
are good at or something.

You sure are drawing a lot of conclusions out of my rejection of Doc T's generation ship.  You do that too much, draw wild conclusions from a simple, small idea.

Your claims mean shit. And you talk a lot of it with your smug "Better than you" attitude
as Doc pointed out and I almost never agree with that dude. Hes just having fun with an idea
until you come along and tell him how stupid it is.

Great job. Your a real cool guy.

Unless you have a destination, there's really no point in building such a ship. Even then, it would be a huge waste of resources.

By the time we are able to start such a project Im not sure resources would be such a problem.

It would also depend on the situation. Are we leaving earth to find another home because
or sun is dying? I mean we just dont know. Sitting here and saying how implausible this is
and blah blah blah is silly.

Billions might be a jump but as of right now we obviously have no where near the
technology (forget resources) to even begin such a project. If this is what
was so stupid to you then I retract my previous statements.

It is possible, just not practical. Not to mention, our space stations are shut down and we aren't putting any astronauts up ATM. The technology it would take to for 10,000 people to live even 30 years in space is awaiting for us in the future, but this idea isn't feasible by any means. To mention once again, the types of shields that would be necessary to survive a meteor shower, solar flares, solar and cosmic radiation, moon dust, lack of moisture that causes static electricity, micrometeorites traveling fast enough to easily pass through a cars engine, etc.

I just simply don't get what the point is. In 90 years when fossil fuel runs out, we will shift energy sources as they are made available to society in a much more cost friendly environment that will cater to that mode of transportation. Leaving earth isn't necessary quite yet.

a star-faring civilization would be completely self sufficient and not have a need for our resources unless those resources are us. if that were the case they would likely be able to imprison and/or enslave us without our knowing. i think the most likely scenario would be imprisonment as in earth being similar to a zoo for them to study and entertain themselves with very little if any intervention.

WHy would they enslave us? With that kind of mentality I dont see how they would even
advance to the point of star travel anyways.

1) we're warlike and survived until space travel

2) we could start working on a star ship with today's technology

1. We haven't even been to Mars in manned spacecraft, the next planet over. It doesn't even begin to count until you can leave the Solar System.
We are in super primitive flying machines, not there yet.

2. We are on the brink of destroying ourselves already

well like i said, i think the only thing that would be unique to a star-faring civilization would be us. it seems to be more probable that aliens would study us like we study animals.

as far as enslavement goes, i think an interesting scenario is for a vastly more advanced civilization with imperial aspirations to covertly enslave us in order to use us as muscle to conquer other civilizations at our level. i mean, why get your hands dirty if you can just get someone else to do the work for you?
