Question about preserving/storing shrooms...little advice.

Hello, I'm going to be buying some mushrooms, I'm not sure how much, or if that matters, but probably between an 1/8th and a quarter.

What would be the best method to store them in order to preserve their potency? My friend and I won't be able to eat them for 1-2 weeks.

if you're buying some they will probably come pre dried, and if this is the case (which it almost certainly will be) then I *think* that you should just keep em in a dark dry place, and they'll be fine, but I could be wrong, anyone else?

Well considering you're buying them from someone...if they are already dried, there's really no telling how old they are or how they've been handled from the point of harvest til they land in your hands...so the potency issue is really beyond anything you can do. Oxygen and light are the enemies...vacuum-pak them and keep them in a dark, cool place (if you don't have vacuum-sealer, use a ziplock baggie and a drinking straw...put the straw in the baggie with the shrooms, close the zipper almost all the way, just so it's snug against the straw...suck all the air out of the baggie, slip the straw out and close the zipper. Fold the baggie over itself to make a nice tight wrap.)

Hey, thats a really good idea Boppity with the straw and ziplock. I myself was wondering how I would store my shrooms once I grew them. Good tip!

It's not the most stealthy way to store them, but if you're not worried about having bags full of dried shrooms in your home, it's a good way to go.

Since we're on the subject...

Is desicant absolutely necessary? Read the faq on preservation, tried fan drying for the first time last night (left them out overnight while I was at work) and they seem bone dry as near as I can tell. I'm not going for long term storage, maybe a month on the outside.

Try explaining what a desicant is to a Canadian Tire wage-slave sometime...without telling them what you need it for. Fun.

Ok.. question. I made some shroom water about 4 days ago. I didn't have time to drink it so I set it in my attic which is hot. It's in a sealed pitcher. I checked it today and it really stinks. Is it safe to drink? Does the potency change in the water when i let it sit?

It might have alot of bacteria in it now that its been sitting out in the heat. I'd probably toss it.

I store mine in honey......in the food cabinet....can't hardly see them and they taste nice and sweet

Haha! you set a jug of water in the attic in Florida? In the summer time? I think that is the hottest place I can think of at the moment.

Lol. I know, but it's the only place at the time that I had to hide them. I've gotten arrestd with 126 grams of fresh cubensis, which for those that do not know, is a 3rd degree felony.. in the state of Florida.
