Baby proofing, and nesting.
    #16431123 -

So I've read these books...

"Dad's Pregnant Too"

"Dude, You're Gonna Be A Dad!"

"What to expect when you're expecting"

I read them all in the first month of my wife's pregnancy. And each of them stated, as it got closer to the due date, that "Momma bear" will start nesting, and baby proofing.

Now, we are two weeks away from the due date. My wife is still very mobile. No cramping, no pains, she's morning sickness, nada. She's text book pregnancy in every way.

So as it gets closer, I'm wondering... "When is she going to start nesting?"

Well... We had a little bit of a scare. She had contractions for about 30 minutes, and rushed to the hospital. Found out she wasn't dilated. And the contractions went away about 30 minutes after. So we wen't home.

I'm looking at our apartment, and thinking... "Well shit."

So I run to Wal-Mart and get EVERYTHING. Crib, mattress, outlet plugs, baby gates, baby monitor, wall stickers, dresser, chest, toys, more clothes. I come home, and what do I find?

I'm the one nesting. My wife has been playing call of duty since we woke up at 9am. It's now 4pm.

I cleaned the bathroom top to bottom. Set up my daughters room, installed the carseat, cleaned the living room, cleaned our room, cleaned the kitchen, installed all the outlet plugs, hooked up the baby gates, put my daughters clothes away according to size. ( newborn, 0-3 months, 3-6 months, 6-9 months, 9-12 months )

Set up a tall white cabinet with my already hoarding stock of diapers and wipes.

I'm going to write a book...

"If you're woman is having a perfect pregnancy with no problems, mood swings, morning sickness, or any of the other shit that goes along with it, and is on maternity leave, and would rather play video games, then take care of the apartment before your child comes, then guess what Dad, you're going to be the nester."

Too long of a title for a book?

Now, I don't want this to sound like bitching ( though I am to some degree ) cause a huge part of me, was overwhelmingly excited doing all this.

There is a happiness in knowing you got your apartment super baby ready, for when your little one arrives.

:hippie:

What the fuck is nesting or baby proofing? Sounds nasty and unhealthy.

You don't even work, you get a free paycheck from the government. I don't see why you're bitching, you should have nothing better to do than to prep for your babies arrival.. or is there something else you should be doing that is more important than your babies arrival?

If she is almost due... she shouldn't be walking around all over, bending, etc.. she should be taking it easy just like she has been. You're not walking around with extra weight.

You really think a book is going to prepare you for real life experience? Best way to learn is just to do it yourself..

You trollin' me?

Nesting is where you get the baby's room ready, and the house ready for your little one's arrival.

Baby proofing is making sure everything is safe for your little one. ( Outlet plugs, baby gates, cabinet locks, et cetera )

First of all. I got a job. I work at a dollar store. It's not glamorous, but I finally found one. So thank you.

And yeah, actually the book was helpful. When my sister was pregnant her husband had to go away for the air-force. I was there during the pregnancy, birth, and a year of my nephews life.

I've got the experience needed.

And yes, even though I'm working I still collect a portion of SSD. But the glory of SSD, is the taxes that -I- pay.

When you retire, you're going to collect Social Security from the taxes YOU paid.

You see how it evens out?

Huh. Are they Oprah words? I don't really watch TV, so I've never heard them.

I'm sure you're a great nester and all though. I don't wanna ruin your thread.

I like to be prepared ahead of time.

I know babies pretty much just lay there all day long for like 10 months, without doing much except crying, eating, shitting, and pissing.

Just how I roll. Insta ready.

Yeah, not much need for baby gates until they are walking tbh. Same with the socket covers. I suppose it doesn't hurt to be prepared! Good luck... your life is about to change forever, op.

Sounds good to me. Always nice when dad steps up to help. I was MAJOR OCD during the nesting phase with my son.  I drove my partner crazy.

My son is 4 months now and does A LOT...he's not even crawling and keeps me busy alllll day long.
