So one of my faggy poems is getting published

I can still take first place n win the thousand but got a letter saying i was a semin finalist and that they wanna publish my poem and need my signature.


this is something to cheer me up amidst my recent downward spiral.

if i can land a gig i can be free to drug as that doesnt really inhibit my poems as much as it did my regualar work.

Shadows of The Silenced


There is a place where no man belongs
The subject of horror films and very sad songs
A place where light never shines, darkness the norm
where sunny skies hide behind miles of storm
Forever alone are the souls so forsaken
by thrills that they sought, risks that were taken

I know this place well though it pains me to say
i've lived through this hell for most of my days
Salvation came oneday in the form of pain
thoughts like barbed wire, tearing through my brain
hundreds of times i tossed freedom away
unable to endure, in my prison id stay

such is the story of so many others
the lost of the world,my forgotten brothers
Blessed are those who seek to deliver
these people from places that would make most quiver
quiver from fear of that which they dont know
tis why most the saviors have been there befo'

no one would venture to so dammed a place
unless they related to the broken face
faces of those who have burned all their bridges
their nerves on edge from pain sharp as the ridges
of needles they stick trying to medicate
away all the suffering to numb their self hate
the silver lining ; that there is salvation
should you make it through the torment & frustration

With concern i lend to the sickened, my hand
my duty to help those who lay now that i stand
Tall above all which for so long held me down
I must show them they're kings & help them earn their crown.

What kind of writing do you do? I got a couple of non-fiction pieces published in journals, thought I haven't had anything recognized in a while.

Hologram, do you only write poetry? And is this a labor of love or are you trying to pursue a career in writing? (I realize the two aren't mutually exclusive...)

i write all my poems by saying "gimme a word" and then i just write. this one was "addiction"( i got 12 or so in an hour using this exercise, a few of which should be published soon)

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but there are several organizations that routinely send out these "poetry finalist" letters that guarantee publication after some signatures (and eventually a check). It's a series of letters usually, and they promise you access to a writer's conference or workshop (again, you'll have to pay for).

Look out for generic site names like: Poetry.com, poems.com, allpoetry.com, bestpoetry.com, and so on.

An elated friend once started bragging to me about his letter and got pretty pissed when I told him they mail out several hundred of those routinely.

Congrats man. That's the first step. I'm working on entering the world of freelance journalism. I reviewed a festival for a small music blog a month ago--the dude loved it, praising my article as the best he's ever posted. I've recently acquired passes to another festival which I will write and review. Eventually I want to get my work published and branch out from festival/concert reviews into more serious work, but it's a start and quite frankly this line of work is new to me, making things slightly more difficult, though very rewarding so far.
