Casing will not pin

My friend has a casing made with 6 Gulf Coast cakes. The casing was covered with foil for 5 days while the myc. began to poke through the top layer. The casing was then cold shocked for 24 hrs. and then put in a terr. The temp stays between 75-82 the humidity stays right at 90. Perlite is used for humidity. Terr. is fanned twice a day. The myc. is poking up all over the casing. The casing has been in the terr. for 12 days with no pins. What is my friend doing wrong? Maybe I should mention that the only way my friend has gotten cakes to work is to dunk them. Can casings be dunked?

no I don't think casings can be dunked, just misted I believe. It seems if the mycelium is still growing too much than either the temperature is a little too high on average or the cakes were nor fully colonized? The former is my guess, though. As long as overlay doesn't occur you're probably fine, just maybe cool it down a bit to hinder mycelial development and wait a bit more.

no, you shouldn't dunk casings - give them a few more days. it taks a little while for the myc. to recover. if you are seeing myc. on the top of the casings they will need light to pin, are you giving them any light ?

When the casing layer breaks out with tiny, white dots all over it, it is getting ready to pin. How deep is your casing layer? If it's really deep, it'll take a few days for the myc. to work its way through. Just be patient.

Yah GC's are a stubborn strain imo... Wait awhile longer. And no dont dunk your casing but you can spray/mist it if you feel it's to dry...

Thanks to everyone who helped. Sure enough, the caseing pinned yesterday. My cousin has noticed that there are only 6 pins and the are all coming from the side of the casing (where it has shrunk away from the side of the pan.) Why is it only pinning in this one place? The sides of the pan have been duct taped.

Technically the casing being pulled away from the sides is called "overlay"... but don't worry about it at all! Cubensis are very strong mushrooms that can overcome many obsticals including overlay, and obviously your cousin's have.
Your cousin can try fanning his terranium out at least 5-6 times a day or as much as once every hour to help get that extra co2 out of the way to induce more pins... Plus you get to watch the little guys grow
