Hello Fellow Shroomers!
This is my First post and will hopefully be a nice picture guide on my first attempt at growing these sneaky little shrooms :crazy2:

I decided that it was probably best to learn to walk before i ran, so rather than jumping in at the deep end, and drowning, i thought i would start with the easiest method before trying anything else.

Im pretty confident that i could have just gone straight in with a TEK and bulk substrate and got my pressure cooker out the loft but my weed growing days have taught me to be patient and start slowly :rasta:

I have got a kit that is essentially sterilized rye grain in a sealed bag with inoculation hole and filer strips, vemiculite, perlite and a large "humidity" bag with filter strips.


The Kit

Along side this i got a 12cc syringe of P.Cubensis Cambodian from a reputable sponser, a box of medical latex gloves, and a few alchol wipes.


Spore Syringe

I gave my self a good scrub down:blush: put on latex gloves, washed them and wiped down the inoculation hole and end of syringe and injected  4ccof spore solution about 1" deep in the substrate on Tuesday the 15th of May and placed in a dark warm airing cupboard.


Substrate after inoculation

After 5/6 days evidence of growth and no contamination was seen and the bag was lightly shaken.
8 days after inoculation more growth was seen.


Possible Myc growth?

So fellow shroomers what do we think so far? is it myc growth? any hints or tips?

it looks okay.. i wouldn't have shaken it with such small growth though. multi-spores normally take a good 2 or 3 weeks to colonize. next time id wait alittle longer. but as far as i can see from this pictures it looked like mycelium

ok, thanks for the reply mate!
A lot more growth was visible before shaking it, I would estimate about 15%, it all seemed to get shaken in to the middle before that picture was taken.

ALOT more colonization has happened over night, maybe 30% now, so not long to go before casing and fruiting with a bit of luck!:mushroom2:

thats no problem! and thats awesome man! i hope this grow goes well for you. make sure those bags are standing up stright and plunny of air. cause if not. like on my very first grow.. it would be good..

Its been busy colonizing away and is still looking contaminate free, so fingers crossed we are on the right track.:mushroom2::tongue:

Im planning on using vermiculite for casing, i take it i should wait untill the substrate is totally colonized before doing this?

Yes, wait until 100%. Be careful with how much you shake/break those up because you could damage the mycelium too much and cause it to stall. So far so good though, just keep us updated and let us know how it goes.

you must have not understood correctly. i asked him what he was gonna spawn his grain to? and what tek he was gonna use? he never states that at all in the OP.

From what I gathered he's spawning it to nothing using 0 tek's. To me at least it appears he's fruiting them in the bags with a vermiculite casing layer.

Haven't shaken the substrate since the last time and probably wont again now.

And yes 0 teks or anything (this time...) once 100% colonization il chop the top off the rye bag, case it with an inch of vermiculite, wrap it in tin foil and put it bag in the airing cupboard for a few more days, then once the casing layers colonized nicely  it will be fruited in a large humidity bag with moistened perlite in the bottom as shown in the pictures in the first post.

Hi all,

Everything had been contiunued as to plan. I cased the rye with a the mixture of vermiculite.

The only problem is this .....





Can anyone tell me if this is a contam or if it is just brusing? it looks very similar to pictures of bruising on the forum, and not so similar to any contam pictures iv found...but im still really not sure.
It doesnt seem to be spreading but im still worried....

If it is a contam then i take it the hole bag etc shuld just be chucked and i should readress my strilization techniques and start frm scratch??

3rd on the bruising, usually trich has a white fuzz looking ring followed by a more greenish looking blue in the middle. Once you get past the colonization part, the mycelium can defend its self but you should still take measures to be clean.

Finger crossed it is just bruising then, i defintly cant seem to see any other signs of contamination like white fluff/mold etc. I was just concerned as the rye didn't seem 100% colonized yet.

I will keep updating this thread with pictures etc as it happens!:mushroom2:
