Would you support bringing all the troops home in the coming week?
    #16212840 -

If you were the President and had the power to bring home all the troops next week would you do it?

Would you feel safer if all the troops were in the U.S. or does anyone think we need some troops abroad?

I would do it in a heartbeat, Obama still hasn't held up his campaign promise to bring the boys back home. Not only would the move make tactical sense, it would be nice to get some friends back.

Nope. If all the troops everywhere were to return to America that would entail extreme cuts to the miltary budget. Which would lead to extreme cuts to military personnel. Which would lead to thousands of unemployed veterans being released back into the general public. If they want to maintain economic stability (and not have thousands upon thousands of VERY angry veterans) they have to taper off slowly.

In a moral sense I'd like this to happen because it would fulfill the last decade of promises from the US government and would allow countless thousands of families to be reunited but from a practical standpoint it would be incredibly unwise.

Thus, stories are small things indeed in the scheme of the universe, but it is hard not to love best what is our own—hard for me, at least."

No, Id think of the stability of where these troops are assigned. Specifically Afghanistan and South Korea. What happens to the people in these countries if all of the sudden these troops are gone?

I think the troops being back would provide stimulus for the economic system. Our unemployment rate is abysmal already and a few thousand more wouldn't mean much in the overall situation. Plus they still have money (not much) to put back into the economy temporarily.

For the first time in a while we are seeing a slight increase in the demand for a workforce. (albiet there is a lot of uncertainty in things like the stock market)

Obama is the commander in chief, in the end its his call.
I say this alot bit why not do the right thing while the time is right.

Sadam is gone, Bin laden is gone and American soil has been kept safe from the dirks; the job is done.

Fuck those countries and their people we're wasting trillions on defense that could be building jobs, roads and schools here.

Kinda selfish, no? But whatever, we all have an opinion. I dont listen to the propaganda from either side of the isle. Theres a reason those troops are there and a reason neither side will bring them home no matter what either side spews out.

This is dumb and makes no sense.

You think there aren't jobs now, imagine if the entire fleet came back.

War is money.

Precisely my point. Our military is made up of hundreds of thousands of men and women posted all around the globe...having them all return...well..have fun attempting to find a job if you're unemployed.

You might wanna whine more about military R&D rather then the cost it takes to maintain the troops around the globe. R&D consumes absolutely garguantuan amounts of money even compared to keeping the logistics of the military in functioning order.

Except when it causes riots cause no one can get a job and thousands upon thousands of people starve.

Using a Bob Marley quote to support your stance on the continuation of the war in Afganistan..... are you dim or trolling?

If I was the President I would send the troops in to Vietnam. I'd have a draft too. Land war in Asia = Unemployment solved!

I think they are good where they are at. We benefit having troops centrally located in the shit storm.

Here's a fun fact: the leading cause of death amongst active duty US military is suicide. Why? because the situation is so fucked up over there. It's not good for anyone involved.

I hate to say it, but it's so fucked up that I feel better having them over there.

Trust me, I really wish I didn't have to feel this way but the world gets scarier everyday.

I guess that attitude is what Obama thrives on to keep the shit over there. Ignorant withoutawire votes democrat because the world's scary and the republicans suck more cock than the democrats.

So do you guys think we should still be in 'nam because the commies are out to get us? Maybe occupation to some extent is still necessary for stability but having too many people out there just rolling through in big convoys targeted by roadside bombs.
here's a more relevant quote
"speak softly & carry a big stick"
