Hehe, yea I have a helluva love/hate relationship with the Greek theatre in LA.  It's a beautiful setting, and while some 7 miles from Dodger Stadium, the more appropriate local landmark would be the Observatory in Griffith Park, as it's tucked right underneath it in the hillsides... which is one of the huge benefits, since you can do a little hiking along the trails up to the Observatory earlier in the day while you get your mind right, then stroll right into the show!  Like a mini more personal Hollywood Bowl I always say.  But alas, I've seen upwards of twenty-five shows there and the staff is usually pretty strict and bothersome, though every once in a while you get lucky.  Griffith Park is notorious for fires, so they are often very strict on smoking in particular.  The ticket costs have also gone up a lot over the years, and if you don't know where to park in the residential neighborhood (there's only a couple streets near the entrance to the park without restrictions that require a half mile walk to the venue), you end up forking out another $20some just for the stack parking.  Sheesh!  But, because it is a nice hilly stack parking lot, it does lend itself to interesting folk and vendors churning about.

The presale this morning was a bit of a bust.  Second night tix are bottom of the barrel though I did manage to get center isle seats in Section B for the first night.  I'm going to send into GDTSTOO today and hop on the regular on sale this weekend to see if my luck improves any.  If I end up with extra tickets, I'm sure I'll have no trouble finding them a good home.  I got some decent seats to the Shoreline show, center section 202.

That was a cool article. I threw on Barton Hall when they started talking about it but I quickly switched over to the Hartford 77 show. I haven't heard it yet. Here we go.

Great article.. it definitely reminds me how easy it is to listen to music these days. its no wonder that there is a sense of entitlement among youth that may have been less intense in the past decades. Everything is right at our finger tips, right now, and easily accessible. Little work is involved to get what you want music-wise anymore. Anybody can be their own expert.

that hartford 77 show is smokin. i just got turned on to that by the other big dead thread thats popping up as of late.

i've known about that barton hall show for some time now and i'm gonna put that on here in a second because i don't think i've listened to that in a year or two.
dancin in the streets is quite tasty from that show if I recall..
thanks for bumping this thread despite your attitude Shins.. unless of course you're being sarcastic? can't really tell

Yo I bumped this...if that's what you mean.
Anyways, floatingwater, I totally dig what you're saying. Technology changes the music, but, Music changes the technology. I think some aspects of art are being stripped-down so to speak, as a reflection of the stripping of individuality and diversity from culture in this country (amerika). Its mistakenly called the melting pot when in reality, it's more like oil and water. I think nobody really kept their indigenous cultures though, at least in many cases. So although stupid people hold grudges and do racist shit, they all assimilate on what media matrix pumps at them.
This side effect of cultural schisms really turns art into a narrow banded spectrum of what is acceptable. Everyone assimilates on things they relate to, and our generation (youngboi) does tend to come together around music. But there is no way so many white kids would say on their own that they like Snoop or 2pac without stupid colleges mind control frats, school, all that. And the artists and record label devils agents know this and its all a bad cycle.
As Red Fox from NYC said, "Hip hop IS the culture." I personally love rap and hip hop, and latin music, rock, and especially jazz..but I see a lot of people don't take any time to learn about music, and what they should be listening for. Its not that you cant just like whatever appeals to you, its just MY OPINION, is that anything that is made to be popular is inherently not *in reality* about the musical content. I may sound old, but I'll put it this way, when Dave Brubeck's band was "popular", it wasn't because of a video or lightshow or tits. I dunno. Can't really explain myself right now kinda baked but the point is....
I fucking love music I used to take my iPods everywhere i went i have three, and it IS an amazing resource if you are a musician. But, I have stopped and am now buying records whenever I can!!! I feel the music industry, interacting with and mirroring technology, will change so much that I cannot even imagine the big picture. I want to find out how to do this and take it into my playing and become not really popular, but really liked for being on top of my shit, and on the cutting edge of whatever blade is slicing through culture over the next few years. Maybe 2012 is the year i will figure it out and get rich as shit!  ahahaah

Hah, sorry man.. For some reason I thought the dumb ass who said "the dead succcckkkss" was the one who bumped the thread. I must have been stoned when I wrote my response because its pretty clear that there were a couple posts before the post that bumped this thread from the dead (pun!).

But you bring up some interesting points about culture and music. There are producers who are making bank on the image of music. Not necessarily the music itself. Sure there is a great dance-able beat, some good samples, and lyrics that speak to a demographic, but the reason people are finding the pop music is because its marketed to be pop. You're supposed to hear that shit at the fancy overpriced clubs, and on KPOP 102.9.

Making money isn't a bad thing, but the real good shit is made because its real good music and the people who made it love what they do and wanted to share it with everyone.

By the way, Dave brubeck is definitely one of my favorites in the jazz genre. Me and my friends that jam have that song Take Five in our rotation of known tunes but we never come close to nailing it. Its one of those songs that we aspire to master one day
