floatingwater said: Great article.. it definitely reminds me how easy it is to listen to music these days. its no wonder that there is a sense of entitlement among youth that may have been less intense in the past decades. Everything is right at our finger tips, right now, and easily accessible. Little work is involved to get what you want music-wise anymore. Anybody can be their own expert.
that hartford 77 show is smokin. i just got turned on to that by the other big dead thread thats popping up as of late.
i've known about that barton hall show for some time now and i'm gonna put that on here in a second because i don't think i've listened to that in a year or two. dancin in the streets is quite tasty from that show if I recall.. thanks for bumping this thread despite your attitude Shins.. unless of course you're being sarcastic? can't really tell
Yo I bumped this...if that's what you mean. Anyways, floatingwater, I totally dig what you're saying. Technology changes the music, but, Music changes the technology. I think some aspects of art are being stripped-down so to speak, as a reflection of the stripping of individuality and diversity from culture in this country (amerika). Its mistakenly called the melting pot when in reality, it's more like oil and water. I think nobody really kept their indigenous cultures though, at least in many cases. So although stupid people hold grudges and do racist shit, they all assimilate on what media matrix pumps at them. This side effect of cultural schisms really turns art into a narrow banded spectrum of what is acceptable. Everyone assimilates on things they relate to, and our generation (youngboi) does tend to come together around music. But there is no way so many white kids would say on their own that they like Snoop or 2pac without stupid colleges mind control frats, school, all that. And the artists and record label devils agents know this and its all a bad cycle. As Red Fox from NYC said, "Hip hop IS the culture." I personally love rap and hip hop, and latin music, rock, and especially jazz..but I see a lot of people don't take any time to learn about music, and what they should be listening for. Its not that you cant just like whatever appeals to you, its just MY OPINION, is that anything that is made to be popular is inherently not *in reality* about the musical content. I may sound old, but I'll put it this way, when Dave Brubeck's band was "popular", it wasn't because of a video or lightshow or tits. I dunno. Can't really explain myself right now kinda baked but the point is.... I fucking love music I used to take my iPods everywhere i went i have three, and it IS an amazing resource if you are a musician. But, I have stopped and am now buying records whenever I can!!! I feel the music industry, interacting with and mirroring technology, will change so much that I cannot even imagine the big picture. I want to find out how to do this and take it into my playing and become not really popular, but really liked for being on top of my shit, and on the cutting edge of whatever blade is slicing through culture over the next few years. Maybe 2012 is the year i will figure it out and get rich as shit! ahahaah
