I fucking hate being alone man. Being single sucks.

I always want to be around the person I'm with. The girl I'm with at the moment has me on a string, she doesn't ride me or anything and lets me do what I want but I want to be wrapped up in her. I love being in relationships. Nothing worse than being alone imo. Coming home to nothing is sad, so it's probably just my job... but when you do the work I do... you appreciate the company of a good girl.  A good woman who will standby while you're away and be there to come home to.

That's my disposition too.  I'm very choosy, to the point where if I don't feel it in my *gulp* heart, I want no part of it.  Every part of my being needs to scream, "KEEP HER!!!!" or I'm just not interested.

I'm a very social person, despite my introverted personality, and if I'm picking "the one" she needs to be damn special.

And my ex already found a new mate (for now).  Sorry charlie.

I strongly empathize with that which I have bolded above.  The rest of it though, seems a bit alarming, as I believe that to truly be effective in a relationship as in life, one must be able to feel a good measure of contentment and comfort with none other than themselves.  Not to say it won't be made better with company (and I know this next part is ridonkulously cliche), but if you don't love yourself, it seems unlikely that you would be able to provide the best love for someone else.

Relationships are a great way to grow as a person; certainly a lot more than people give them credit for.  At the same time, they often bring lots of drama and craziness.  It's a double-edged sword.  As long as the chick isn't trying to mold me to her will then I'm fine with telling her what's up or whatever.  What "freedom" are you referencing?  Banging other girls freedom?

When I say freedom I mean no obligations to text them every day, call, report my life, etc.  I just don't want that connection/tie.  I don't want commitment.  I'm far from a "player"...  I just don't want that bond.  I'd prefer to hang out every now and then, call every now and then, etc.  I don't want to be questioned when I'm not actively communicating or anything like that.

She didn't go overboard or anything with it, but I just started realizing that I was in a real relationship again and I didn't want anything to do with it.  I was in over my head.

really, you were in over your head?
so then maybe you don't know what was right to begin with?

I guess not.  I'm not ruling relationships out completely, but I'm not going to actively seek it.  I'll let nature play it's course and if I find someone, awesome, but I don't want it badly enough to go looking for it and I don't care that much if I find it.

I'm in a friends with benefits situation with a girl as well.

We know each other really well and dated for a while a few years ago. We hang out just like regular friends would but we also fall into coitus every once in a while.

I have been dating a Women for over 2 years. She is 26  and I'm almost 32. She wants to get married and have kids and Im not feeling it.  We have our own apartment together and have lived together for around year and half.
I don't think I want kids until my late thirties and she wants them soon.
If we do break up it will be hard, but it will be the right thing because she can start a family sooner than what she will get from me.

It's complicated.

Since I was a youngin, I had always preferred being alone. I never enjoyed being around people; it wasn't that they made me uncomfortable, but rather I didn't care for talking/discussions and enjoyed the inner workings or dialogue of my mind more.  I have been a recluse for the majority of my life.  Getting married isn't something I would have hoped for.
..up until I met "the one".

After a few months of dating this girl, I always wanted to be around her.  Every day, literally.  There was still that feeling of 'being alone' that I enjoyed (if that makes any sense..) but I was able to spend that time with someone I truly connected with.  Conversations with her were more lively, interesting, and complicated than the dialogue in my mind.. the coupling of this with physical sensory input (such as cuddling) really blew any other experience out of the water in terms of intensity in emotion, touch, etc.  Getting married, at this point, was something I expected to happen.

'being with her > being alone > being with other people' is about how that equation looked.

Being alone in that sense is something that I can no longer enjoy and it actually torments me.  We're no longer together, and were separated by distance before the separation, and I've been struggling to even function without her company.  I've gone out and searched for a few cheap replacements.. as it turns out, I'm very likeable by entire crowds of people but I don't enjoy their company in the same.

Hopefully I can get back to enjoying the loneliness.

I'm right there with you Newb.  I love and cherish my freedom too much to be in a relationship with anyone.  Call it selfish or greedy if you must, but who is anyone else to tell me what to do with my life, especially if I am happy with the way things are now?  Besides, I'm one less person you have to compete with in the dating world.  Cheers to everyone who is in a great relationship but it just isn't for me personally.

I came upon this realization too about a year and a half ago.  I was talking to a girl for a few weeks, not dating yet, but then I kinda just got tired and felt bleh one day and cut it off.  Ever since I realized that I was not a "relationship" type person and came to peace with myself.  I realized I was trying to force myself into a relationship in a sense because I figured that's something you're supposed to want to do.

Now I'm a little uncertain about what I want.  Yes, part of me enjoys the relaxing liberation of being alone but another part of me feels like I am missing out on life experiences as I come closer and closer to death.

Don't really know what to do...

idk, I try not to think about the far future too much. I've been going extremely steady with the same wonderful girl for over 3 years. We have honestly fought maybe once or twice the whole relationship. I know people get older and things change but right now I really enjoy having a nice girl in my life, finding the right girl can put just the right touch on life. Not to mention sex on the reg. is nice

I would be happier alone than in a relationship that limited my freedom beyond the freedom of dating other people. I like the idea of wanting to talk or be with someone but not obligated. I have my own life, I do my own thing and I think that my alone time is essential to my sanity but that doesn't mean I wouldn't be happy in a relationship. There's something great when you find someone who accepts you for who you are and how you live. It's nice to have someone there but a relationship should never compromise who you are.
I hate the idea of being in a relationship just for the sake of being in a relationship but if you can find the person that you connect with relationships can be fantastic. When it works, it works -- when it doesn't, it doesn't.

I can totally relate to you situation except I've stayed with my gf a lot longer. We're breaking up because I want to be single and she knows that. So where going to split and see how things are after a year or so.

I do want kids though, just not yet since I'm only 24. For now I just want to travel and do what I want.
