Calibrating your hygrometer...

If you are one of the many people looking to use the hygrometer laying around your house or going cheap without buyin an expensive one, then you can calibrate it to know exactly what it is reading.  So, take a bottle cap full of table salt, then get a few drops coming out of your tap slowly, and put in 5 or 6 in a 600 ml lid-until the color changes a little all over.  then take a ziploc and place the cap and hygro in there and seal it tight, dont worry about air or anything-just zip it like it is.  leave it overnight and by morning it should read exactly 75% rh.  my digital read 74, so its a pretty accurate test.  and if yours says 60, for example, then add 15 every time you check the rh level.  good luck,
