I'm back in Illinois visiting for a week and decided to head out to prove that you can find more than just dried out old white polypores growing in Illinois.
Pics speak for themselves.
40 degrees above normal, light rain last few days, fairly humid.
Lots of dead trees, rotting wood. What I imagine is just about the perfect habitat for many mushrooms.

Looks promising to me.

 Dammit
I tried.
Maybe the mushrooms still think it's winter.
I Will try again in a few months.

Oh Illinois...
I spent 5 hours poking around decaying logs just to find a single patch of tubaria. It gives me hope. A little.

you guys will figure it out. I'll tell you the secret. When Spring comes in, the saprobes come out first(things that grow on rotting wood, like pluteus, pholiota tuberia ect) nothing mycorhizzal comes out early, the first thing being gyrometra and morchella. So what I am saying is disturbed habitats are where they are at right now, but in 3-4 weeks, you will find more stuff in the open forests

Its quite a drive for me to find an area that doesn't qualify as disturbed. I expect to start seeing coprinoid mushrooms soon if the heat persists... I'm not holding my breath though, I've seen it snow in may.

oh yea.. no doubt the part of illinois i'm from, most of the woods, by that i mean 98% have never had anything more than wildlife running around them.. so its pretty undisturbed.
i'm ready for some fresh fungus!!

You can officially consider your neck of the woods to be a candidate for invasion.
