Illinois hunters?
    #2123924 - 11/19/03 11:20 PM (13 years, 17 days ago)

May be late in the season, but it will be unseasonably warm here for the next couple of days (high 60's) and it just rained for 2 days. Would love to go hunting tomorrow in the forest preserves. Think it would be worth it? I'd crap myself if I found some azures or cyans!

that depends greatly on what it is you are going to be looking for.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

fair enough. to put it simply... any specimine that I found where it was "supposed" to be would make the hunt for me and an active would be icing on that cake.

I have to read the FAQs more as I am greener than Magash's bud when it comes to hunting.

first, specimen is not spelled with an "e". next; where waht is supposed to be?

there are going to be no actives you will find in your area in the forest as far as i know, with the exception of bymnopilus species, with are prediminant in the warm months, providing there is adaquate rainfall.

it seems verry clear you do not know waht you are even looking for in the area of actives, and i'm not sure if you know waht edibles to look for, so i would certainly counsel against consumption of any find on your part.

have you read the mushroom hunting FAQ? if not, there is a list of active species found in most states. check it out, and then find descriptions for these species containing habitat, season and growing conditions for said species.

hahaha, have fun man. you know it has already gone below freezing in illinois several times. I have gone hunting in some illinois forest preserves just for the hell of it( i know there arent any actives) if anything you will enjoy a nice walk in the woods, dont expect to find anything good though.

hey deepblue42, I will read the FAQs, but could you possibly provide any other resource for No. Illinois species including seasonal and logistical information?

ok, we're both chill now . i make an effort to be as patient and nice as i can, and sometimes my patience wears thin and i may seem short with someone who does not deserve it. for this i appologise. PM me if you have a problem.

I found oysters in So. Wisconsin this week. If oysters are still coming up after our freezes, then likely the cooler weather species (maitake, enoki, elm oyster, shimiji) are still coming up as well (or will come up).
