your web browser is a false prophet

When loading a page the web browser will say stuff like 95% done and all that, but it lies! It's not actually telling me exactly how it's doing at all. if there were five percent more to load then it would load in an instant.

Why do we develop technology to lie to us? It's pretty fucked up. My machine is a hack! There's no stability.. it crashes.. it has the integrity of an ant hill and I suspect has come to be by the grace of the same laws of the universe that allows thousands of independant organisms to surf the wings of chaos and voila! Ant hill! Ant hills are the period after every run-on sentence every string of words with no coherency meaning ANT HILL!

Is this post a work of fiction, nonfiction, a poem or an ant hill?

Before the browser starts downloading the page, it downloads the page's header which carries the basic info about the page like how much space it takes up on your hard drive. Then when the browser knows that, it can do simple math to determine how much of the web page still needs to be downloaded. Ya dig?

More like god. Does god tells you how much % of your lifetime you have lived already ?
Btw, Opera is far better and more acurate than IE when it comes to display transfer information.
My advice, change your prophet, god, web browser or whatever.

Actually, there is five percent more to load. It's not programmed to lie. It's not measuring how much more time it's going to take to load it.

Like, say there's 20 images on a page, the first 19 are all 1k, so it loads all of those, and says 95% complete, but the last image is 200k, so it takes a long time.
