HOLY SHIT, tough strain and colonization time.

This kid i kind of know decided he would try to cultivate some mushrooms. As countless others have done before him and will do after him, he used the PF-tek, using 2 parts verm, 1 part BRF and 1 part water. He then noticed the jars were colonizing slowly, so after 5 days or so he put them on a heating pad. They were there for about 2 days before he got a thermometer and noticed that at the lowest setting the pad was over 110 f. The jars sat on there for about 3 days total at 110 f before being moved to a safer, cooler incubator (about 82 f). He thought the jars were cooked, but then noticed that the mycelium started to grow. He was extremely surprised and outlined the growth to make sure, its been 11 days since innoculation, and the mycelium is definetly growing. How is this possible? That much time at 110 f should have cooked that shit to a crisp. That kid was using Lipa Yai cubes from The Hawks Eye, and i just wanted to report how rugged this strain really is. That kid hasn't gotten any mushrooms though so he doesn't know what the trips like, he'll definetly keep you posted. Has anyone had a similar experience?

Well if your heating pad was anything like mine, even on one steady setting the temperature regulates like fuck-doodles (I JUST coined that term) one day I had the pad would be on high and be in the 100's the next it was in the 80's. So maybe your pad wasn't ALWAYS at 110F and if it was wouldn't it really only be the bottom that would be getting that hot? So maybe near the top some mycelium survived and just regrew back down onto the verm/brf-that would be my guess. Either way you're lucky. lol.

hmmm... perhaps. Yeah, those cakes were dried out anyways, so that kid squirted some liquid mycelium in to start them, but they were still growing before i did that. The weird part was that it grew out of the original innoculation points and not from the top or anything.
