A question about puerto ricans

Hey, does anyone have experience with puerto-ricans? My cow has tried to grow them twice, two batches of 12 jars innoculated, about 3 months apart. Each time they colonized at a pretty good rate, but were a bluish color each time, the same blue color as a bruised cake would be. The entire first batch was tossed because he thought they were contaminated. However, on this batch he payed closer attention to the growth from the beginning, and my cow finds it odd that each one of the jars are growing exactly the same as before (diff syringes, but both from the Spore Haven). Of course, contaminated syringes could be the problem, but where growth is proceeding, at the very edges, it looks like the normal white color of any mycelium, but the center of the growth is blue. Could the mycelium be bruising in the jar? Has anyone had something like this happen to them before?

I've had bruising inside of my jars. Don't toss 'em until you know for sure that it's not bruising. Your neighborhood bum could be having the time of his life off of the invitro puerto ricans he keeps finding in the trash.

Thanks all. I guess it's off to the contamination forums for me, see if I can't find a pic to match what my cow is seeing. The thing that gets me is that it's happening in EVERY PR jar, but not in any of the EQ jars cohabitating the incubator. Is the mycelium of PR overly sensitive or something? (*crosses fingers and prays it's not contam*)

Puerto Rican is notable for it's fast colonization rate.
Kenny has never encountered bluing mycelium, but then again, Kenny has only grown PR once.

asside from the fast colonization rate, PR is also known for the abundance of pins, it sometimes takes as long as a month before the pinset starts after full colonization. Sadly, most of the time, the pins remain just that, it can take up to another month for a mature mushroom to develop. Normaly it's only a couple of weeks **edit: I forgot to mention, PR will also form pins on the mushrooms themselves, so dont be suprised to find a shroom growing from a shroom.. P#1

open the jars and give it a sniff, contamination smells rank. If it smells sickeningly sweet and fungal, then youre golden.

My last Puerto Rican was 5'4" and she kicked my ass.

Sadly, as it turned out my cow must have gotten contaminated syringes. When he opened one of the jars, a nice puff of spores came wafting up from a pale green mold. Ugh, oh well. My cow thought he'd try them because of their rumored potency, but if they tend to grow as small as the ones you posted, SBTlauien, then it probably isn't worth it. Cow's next project is another hispanic one: Huatulas, supposedly the strain from Maria Sabina's locale. Anyone have any experience with those babies?
