Gratitude.

I'm in the midst of my first grow, and I just wanted to offer a huge thank you to all of the knowledgeable users here who spend so much time educating and helping each other.

I learned so much from reading through the forums, and growing has been such an awesome experience-- so glad I found this site.

Newbies: search the forums with the "trusted cultivator" box checked, and sort by date so you start with the newest discussions and you'll learn everything you need to know and then some.

inoculated a 50/50 mix of wheat and wbs with GT MS. Fully colonized in about 2 weeks. Used Damion's coir tek with some added gypsum. I let one tray over-colonize, but otherwise I am amazed at how well things have gone. Thank you all for so much good information!

Judging by the girth of your Cube's and the Fuzzy Mycelium at the base of the stipes it looks like they could use more Fresh Air Exchange. Maybe if you up the FAE for your 2nd flush you will see even better results.

Excellent advice about them not getting enough air-- I've increased FAE to my second container of trays that just started to come up and the stems are significantly fatter. Thanks!

Thanks HippieChick

I'm using 9 x 13 aluminum trays in 66 qt clear tubs. For FAE I drilled 4 2" holes which are covered with EZ felt. I've got a big ole CFL bulb (6500k) providing light to two tubs. However, the heating system in my place has made it tough to keep humidity up. I've been fanning more and its bulked up the stems, but I hate letting in so much dry air. I'm thinking maybe I should put an inch or two of perlite on the bottom of my tote for a kind of hybrid setup.

I'm interested in setting up a ultrasonic mister to pump in fresh humid air, but I've read several trusted cultivator threads where active ventilation and humidity systems were definitely not recommended...I'd hate to set up a humidifier and pump if its going to create a new batch of problems. Any suggestions?

Humidity increasing mechanisms:

Perlite on the bottom of the tub,
Mist when you fan,
Aquarium bubbler pump into a cup of water,
Ultrasonic,
Cool mist,(this is over kill and needs a timer to regulate.)

any of these should allow you to increase your RH

Sweet Nectar! Looks a hell of a lot better than my first grow

Everything looks good esp. if you follow the advice of the others and get some more FAE and such. No worries though, the fact that they pinned in the middle is a good sign your humidity levels are decent. If the new FAE changes the humidity put a sheet of crumpled wax paper loosely on top and fan it out daily. Maybe you already knew that. haha.

I guess the only thing I can add is I'd cut them off with a knife as they're ready and let the substrate dry out for a week (as in let it in your FC without misting or anything). I know it's parroting RR but cutting them off as well as leaving them alone for 5-7 days before dunking for 5 hours results in an immediate beautiful 2nd flush.

Oh yeah, I forgot and since no one mentioned it that I saw, unless you have a casing layer, 'over-colonizing' is called 'consolidation' and it's a good thing! I always let them go foe 7-10 days after they're 100% colonized and the first flush literally erupts as a result. : )
