can i turn granulated sugar into a solid clear crystal?

well?



i know one of you probably knows this off hand.


i want a quartz looking piece of sugar.




so i can consume it and possibly freebase it





like rock candy only one really big rock.......

in theory it should be possible
rock candy is many crystals because most people start with many crystals
you usually start with a string or stick dipped in sugar

it would be difficult to do irl but you could start with one granule
or make it normally and break off the biggest crystal

Yeah its just like making rock candy but being really careful not to disturb the solution of sugar water and have a really nice seed crystal to start from. The seed crystal could be snapped off of some lesser quality rock candy that you can grow and enjoy.

Growing crystals is all about patience.. Unless of course you're growing Bismuth crystals which in that case only take a couple hours and turn out like the craziest iridescent mind blowing looking things you'll ever see. Trust me, if you want to see something cool do a google image search for bismuth crystals

Edit: and grow your sugar crystal very slow by restricting the evaporation rate of the water to a minimum. It will probably take several weeks to grow but it could turn out amazingly if you're patient.

ok, so i start up a string crystal, and then break off the biggest and use it as a new base to grow a single  big one?


seems simple enough, might as well have a whack at it.


i'm gonna boil up some water.


should i keep it covered with plastic wrap?

i mean to keep the steam in?





would they develope faster in room temp, or should i put it in the fridge?

I doubt you'd get crystal growth in the fridge. Fridges tend to be pretty humid so evaporation would take for.ev.er. I'd just fully saturate some boiling water then pour it into something and let it evaporate at room temp for a few days/weeks.

the slower the crystal forms the clearer it will be
(if the crystal forms fast it will trap imperfections)
