P. Cyan lookalikes??
    #15308138 -

Can anyone tell me likely mushrooms that are often mistaken for P. Cyanescens?

Found several large patches today on woodchips in SW UK. I am 99% sure they were the real deal, but was on my way to the hospital so didn't have time to stop and gather them. I picked an immature one and one fully opened to inspect as I walked, slight blue bruising after a min or 2.

All my field books make me think I'm right in my ID but I obviously want to be sure. so what are the alternatives so I can cross-reference?

Thanks all. :peace:

Thanks, just been trawling through some older threads, wouldn't have posted but I needed a quick response as I want to snag them before dark. Y'all know what it's like once you get reading old threads on here, before you know it, it's time to go to work.

These had white stems and were very 'Psilocybe' looking indeed (immature ones looked almost identical to Cubensis), gonna run and get them now if I have time, will upload some pics and take prints later. Funny cos I found a P. Cyan print I forgot I had yesterday, synchronicity, must be a good omen. :peace:

Cyans do not look like cubes
If they are not staining blue, really blue, toss them

Been through some more books and made another post with an ID request and pics. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/15309094/gonew/1#UNREAD

I'm going to have to disagree HarryL, if the ID is correct (confirmed by a TI) then the pins (I did specify immature, maybe shoulda said pins...) do indeed look very very similar to Cubensis, semi mature ones resemble P. Mexicana too...

3 things:

Nowhere do I state that the ones pictured look like Cubensis.

There are clearly no pins in the pic so this is self evident.

(facepalm is the 3rd thing in case that's not clear either...)
