If you imagine yourself travelling back in time, you would be the smartest guy on earth right?

I was thinking about this.

I always assume that if I travelled years back in time that I would be the smartest man on earth. Then I took a look at the Colosseum in Rome and other things like british warships of the 1500s and all the other stuff.

I would have no fucking clue how to build that shit... and yet they did.

Odds are if I traveled back in time, I would end up being a meaningless member of society like I am today.

Fucked up right?

My biggest worry would be that some of the ideas i would present, which i know for a fact are truth, would be seen as blasphemy or something by everyone else and i'd just end up getting myself killed. :frown:

I agree with OP for the most part but a key mistake made here is that your assuming these people were not as intelligent as us. The average Greek citizen was no less intelligent than the average citizen now.

Definitely bringing ideas back to the past would be the most significant. Unfortunately you would need to speak there language.

Well if were allowed to bring back objects(books are objects), thats a whole different story...

the amount of change would be insane.

Gotta remember that people back then were intelligent and capable of learning everything we know, so the rate of technological improvement would be insane depending on when you brought them back to.

People were more or less just as intelligent back then as they are now, we've just had more time to explore things. Without their intelligence we wouldn't have anything. Another meaningless member of society, yeah probably.

1. Are you making a claim that they were MORE or LESS intelligent then right now? Pick one.

2. Knowing that a grain of sand is made up of hundreds of tinier pieces is different then knowing that things are made of atoms and those atoms are made of other magical stuff which is also made of even more magical stuff.

You're right that without their foundation we wouldn't know what we know now.

I think the idea of bringing objects is adding too much "what if" to thee equation.

How would you change the world for the better if you could go back to one time and then return only once?

We go back with a shit ton of ideas. We filter out the crap that is possible in that time and put your mind on doing it.

From there you need to assemble a group of people to produce your thing, you need to know peopkle to get money from etc. You need to set up a huge ass business.

How many item can you invent? How are you gonna mass produce them? Tough questions

i would bring back the knowledge of canning and
pasteurization
and build a food supply business based on that

it wouldn't look too suspicious or witchy
and i can slowly find and finance the brightest minds for
my greater projects

I don't think it would even work that way, i think in a period of like 10 years the world will have advanced HUNDREDS of years, just by introducing a small amount of important information to the right people

And if played right you would be the most powerful man/woman in the world until you die

I think going back just to invent a bunch of items(i'm assuming you mean things like cars and personal computers) and make money from them would be a waste, going back would revolutionize the world in a much different way than that

This is all theoretical of corse
