my datura metel plants
    #1521328 - 05/05/03 08:41 AM (13 years, 7 months ago)

hi all. these are my daturas which have now been in this relatively small flower pot ever since they were seeds. as you can see 2 plants have to share a single flower pot which would probably be too small for even a single plant.
nevertheless, they look healthy and are developing more and more 'side-branches', although very slowly.

i was wondering if there is a possibilty that these plants will never bloom or develop seed pods because of lack of space?

i do not currently have the option to move them to a garden. A bigger flowerpot may be available in a while. i read on erowid that these plants can be as big as 7 feet (if i remember correctly) but is it possible to keep them small like this?

sorry for the bad pics, no cash for a decent cam yet.

looking at these pics myself i just realize that they were in a cardboard box with a plastic bag in it when i took those pics (dont ask ). they are in an actual flower pot at the moment.

hi again. if i asked any disturbingly frustrating or impossible questions, please let me know!

should i mention that i do not grow these plants so i can eat them? seems to be quite an issue at the moment.

Top them, once they're the size you want, just cut off the top most part of the plant, then it'll grow laterally, just keep trimming those and it'll stay the size you want.

blooming/flowering: i don't understand what space has to do with it.

i think he was wondering if they would be stunted by the small pot and not bloom. and i really dont know enough about the plant to say but someone else might.

well if it's in a small spot, it'll probably become root bound and end up dying.

If I were you I would just take them out and plant them in your back yard someplace. Somewhere with morning full sun is good but shady after noon.

Datura/Brugmansia species hate pots, no matter how big or small. Plant them in the ground.

well, Brugmansia's are almost exclusively cultivated in pots in north America except in the far south.

I've seen these species in pots many a times and flowering and looking just happy.

They grow in pots, they just GROW ALOT better outside them.

Of course your local climate will determine the specifics.

ok guys this has been a while now and i'm finally ready to admit quite a gigantic fuckup here.

these plants as shown, are actually chilly pepper plants. i mislabeled the pots, and the datura seeds never germinated until months later.
