Building my flowhood....

Hey all... Well the time has come- im sick and tired of contams so im going to build my own flowhood.
I went out today and bought two filters a prefilter 3/4" inch thick and a HEPA filter that was rated at 99.97% filtration at .3 microns
I have two questions now 1) Is that HEPA going to filter enough of the gunk out of the air? I know others have gone with filters of 99.995% 2) How do I find the CFM of the blower I will need? I tried Anno's link to the FAQ for this, but i keep on getting "parametererror"s
Thanks in advance for the help!!!

Ok,...
Well, in searching for the data on this replacement HEPA filter i picked up, i came across the unit this filter is used in.... http://www.venmar-ventilation.com/english/HEPA32.html
Basically, it says the blower in the HEPA unit the filter is supposed to belong to is 320 cfm- which im gonna buy. Now, what I want to know before I go out and start building this thing, do the cfm requirements change depending on the location of the prefilter (seeing as i dont know where its located in the unit)? Does it really matter if the prefilter is in front of the blower or after it??

>Ive got all these old links to the FAQ that dont work anymore... The FAQ has moved to the them CMS system couple of months ago. The old one doesn?t exist anymore.
>do the cfm requirements change depending on the location of the prefilter No. At least not dramatically.
>Does it really matter if the prefilter is in front of the blower or after it?? Yes. It?s better to be mounted so that it filters the air before it enters the blower. Keeps the blower clean, and makes the prefilter maintainance and exchange easier.

Beautiful! Thanks!
I have one more question tho... - the link to the unit this HEPA replacement filter is used in says its powered by a 320 CFM blower, but my calculations (from the faq, using 1" pressure as i dont have the data for the filter...) suggest somewhere around 210cfm. Which should I go with? My concern is that there may be other factors in the unit that uses the 320 cfm filter and i may over power my flow hood - OR - My filter may need the stronger cfm because of a different static pressure than i calculated it with...
if it helps, the filter is only about an 1 1/2" thick

How comes you don?t know the static pressure of your filter?

Well, apparently "there is no datasheet for the filter" ... or so im being told by the people who made it. Is there any other way of determining this, or method of selecting a blower?

Well, then you?ll have to assume "the worst". let?s say, including the prefilter the whole thing has 1.2" static pressure. Then you choose a suitable blower for this static pressure according to the directions and according to the filter area.

Hmm... Yeh, i think thats probably what I will have to do then. Too bad there wasnt a way of determining the static pressure by myself.

what about getting a fan with a higher cfm rating to be on the safe side. then controlling it with the proper dimmer switch.
