whats the least space possible to have the blower blow into behind the filter in a flowhood? my filter is a foot thick so i dont want to have to add anymore space than nescessary behind it. thanks.

Id give any fan about 4" or you'll get shrouding and seriously decreased flow.

Definitely! You have to place the blower so it does not blow directly into the filter but from the side or from the top.

yeah, i figured id blow in through the top and box in the blower and prefilter the box. this way i can mount it with the large side of the motor towards/over the filter and save space. exactly fow small of a space can i use though? is it really 4 inches? it seems like that would still decrease the flow. this might be something that depends on the surface area of the filter.

yeah, ive seen that but im using a different type of fan so i cant mount it dropping into the box like that and have to mount it externally. the space behind the filter in that tek has to allow for the fan unit but mine design does not so i want to know how little space i can do. 4, 6, what?

The opening of the blower is about 4x4 inches or so? Then I would add 3 or 4 inches to this so you have 8 inch which is deffinitely enough.

Heres one of mine, very low pro! Not a DYI but does show how thin a design can be utilized.

you just have the filter and fan box separate and not built flush with the workspace? how does that do for you? does it make a difference? it seems like one with a workspace built on is far better. The design i have in mind is similar to "nan's flowhood" or something of that sort. ill try to find a link.

Well it works on any table as the workspace. And the weight saved makes moving it and storage much easier.
