Ecstasy and depression/anxiety
    #15059091 -

Has anyone ever tried/known someone who has tried ecstasy as a means to break long term debilitating depression and anxiety?  Did it make it better?  Worse?

You'll feel a lot better during the roll, but when it's over, your depression will come back that much stronger.

You might even have an afterglow for a few days that keeps you happy, but you'll crash eventually.

Not always true, MDMA can help you over come a depression by letting you see what it looks like over the mountain, which you can use to remind yourself when you come down.

Well here's how it is.  I'm pretty sure I'm going to kill myself.  I'm unemployed and in pain and I have had really bad depression since I was 14.  I actually dropped out at once point because of it, though I went back and finished just because I felt I should.  I've been in and out of the medical world but they don't help, especially the medication they offer.  Meditation and friends don't help.  I can't find love for my family.  I get so frustrated that it eventually peaks, I break some stuff and then I go "Oh no", but the damage is done.  I can't see outside of myself.  I don't know what to do anymore.

I'm thinking ecstasy can blow my mind open.  I think it could help.  But I also know about the comedown, and I know that could potentially lead to me killing myself.  I've done it before and I know how it feels.  I actually turned to drugs initially because I felt like killing myself, really thought I would, and my two year stint with drugs bought me some time.  Then I thought quitting would make me better somehow.  It's been four years, and in this time, I've been feeling more and more likely to kill myself, even though I keep pushing to try and overcome.  Being really vocal with friends and family and myself and really trying hard to work at and overcome this.  It just isn't helping.  I'm just getting worse.  So what have I got to lose?  I could get better.  Or I could kill myself on the comedown.  Either way, I'd at least be taking action.  No more tormenting people with my shit.  No more tormenting myself with my nowhereness.  There'd finally be a conclusion for everyone I've involved with this.  I know a lot of people may disagree with it, but that's part of the disease I suppose.

I just really want to hear if it's actually worked for anybody, or if I'm just fantasizing because I'm so god damn depressed.

Your life  isnt that bad. Many people have it off far worse then you. Look at other people and be happy that you have what you have.

Take a lsd trip at a small weekend music event. See what that does for you.

Not sure what age your at but you seem young. If you do not take your life...

5 years down the road.. you will look back at this very moment in your life and laugh and thank your lucky fucking stars and yourself in general that you did not take your own life.

Dont you want to know what happens next? I do. Ive been thinking about certain dark ideas lately. My life is not too great. Im barely holding on. But im keeping the idea of what will happen next? technology i dont want to miss. certain drugs and countries ive never seen or done. You should hold off longer. Give yourself that respect.

I know my situation could be worse, but that does not change my state of mind.  It got this bad in Grade 11, which was over ten years ago.  I don't look back on it and go "Man I'm glad I stayed alive", I think to myself "Look at how much worse I've become, look at all the shit I've gotten myself into since then, why didn't I just kill myself back then?  What a coward I am for not having the balls to do it now."

I've never done LSD.  It terrifies me.  I don't even know who I'd do it with.  I don't even know how to get it.  I don't have many friends.  I have some I stay in touch with but my anxiety is terrible.  I get so bad in public that I damn near pass out.  You know the feeling you get when you stand up too quick, that rush of blood, how it fucks with your vision?  I get that just leaving the house.  Medical remedy for this is in some half-assed pill form, or through gradual exposure.  I've been practicing leaving my house for four years, I've even gone out of city, out country, and it's always been an absolute nightmare.

I want to believe you man.  I WANT to.  I want to believe that staying alive is worth it.  I like movies and games.  I'd like to see what movies and games come out next.  I like women.  I've had good experiences with women in the past, which outweigh the bad ones.  I'd like to see if there's any more good experiences in my future.  I like learning.  I go to school to pursue this but my anxiety is so bad that it's crippling my capacity for it.

I'm locked in something.  I know a lot of things, but I can't change my mind.  That's why I'm thinking ecstasy.  I've done it before so I'm not terrified of it.  I could do mushrooms or LSD too I guess but I'm freaked that that will absolutely destroy my mind and I will exist but not have the ability to do much else.  I'm living a petrified existence.  I need someone/something to get me out of here.

The comedown isn't that bad, whenever I start feeling depressed or on a comedown and I feel like its taking a toll on my mind I drink 2 raw eggs to supplement depleting chemicals (serotonin mostly) and adding choline and other helpful brain foods. I'm really high but you should hang with a friend and take a decent amount of MDMA together and I think you'll see that there is a life worth living you just gotta realize it.

The only friend I have that does drugs lives out of town.  I'd feel safe taking E with him, I'd even try mushrooms or something else (and I know he'd totally be up for it), but... well.  I guess I'm afraid.  It's been a while since I've taken anything.  My mind will be blown.  But that's what I want.  Do you really think it's a good idea?  I need more input.  I also need to talk to my friend.

You need some MDMA and clean LSD, I think you'll realize a lot of things that you should have already figured out. Also trying smoking DMT, that can really get things back in perspective very quickly. Good luck!!!

There's awareness to be found in the psychedelic mind, which is good for people with spiritual/emotional problems.

Talking as both, A new member (but a very active member on another forums)
Ecstasy (or MDMA) will make you feel great during your experience, but when you are "coming down" , you will feel very depressed. Most of your serotonin in your brain is released when you roll/ Depending on your dose, which is why you feel so great during your "roll" and when most of it is gone, you will feel depressed.

( a clickable, helpful diagram for you)
http://thebrain.mcgill.ca/flash/i/i_03/i_03_m/i_03_m_par/i_03_m_par_ecstasy.html

There are natural ways to Increase your serotonin, for example:

Getting Plenty of sunlight
Or eating:
Dark Chocolate (60% cocoa minimum)
Turkey (one of the best foods at raising serotonin, and my theory why people fall asleep after a chistmas dinner is that it raises your serotonin levels that high after eating so much turkey)
Tuna
High omega 3 foods that increase serotonin like wild salmon, sardines or Mackerel
High Quality Eggs
Cheese
Bananas
Whey protein (Like that in protein shakes)
Sour Cherries - Raises Serotonin levels + Melotonin , Helps you sleep. Reccomend taking after a Roll.
Free Range Beef
Asparagus
Avocado
Pecans
Pineapple
Eggplant
Spinach
Walnuts
Oats - Could even be a nice bowl of porridge .. yumm

im in a pretty shitty depression right now too, the feeling is right in my chest and throat area, iv been like this for a year and 1/2 and im fucking sick of it. The only things that have helped me feel "normal" was E and shrooms. But the feeling comes back the next day like always, its fucking relentless and its goddamn depressing.

Im not at the point of wanting to kill myself, probably because i havent been like this for 10 years but im willing to do anything to get this feeling out of me.

Like you i am still interested in women (actually a main cause of my depression and not ever having a girlfriend, the pressure of it building up and getting to me, Real Social Dynamics is a site to help overcome social anxiety and get a girl friend but it really made it worse...) I still like to learn stuff and if I didnt go out with friends i think i would be cooped up in my room likely holding a gun to my head..

Anyway iv written a lot about me mainly because i find reading about other people is the best way to try to help correct the depression, or at least it gives me some hope..

Even though 10 years is a long time there has to be something that can be done to fix your mind, tests, different drugs something.. because trying to force your way out through willpower is not going to work.. you can't balance a "chemical imbalance" with willpower.

Im going to see my family doctor in october and tell her everything i feel and what i think, espcially about the shrooms and E because those 2 drugs actually make me feel normal again.. Even though iv only done E once and shrooms maybe 10 times max. Im thinking maybe there is a antidepressant that mimics the effects of E and shrooms but does not have a down period and is permanent. oh and weed does not help, it makes it worse...

let me know what you think

I think mdma has probably helped people in this way, but I think 90% of people that have had it improve their quality of life/perspective had it happen spontaneously. You are looking for it to cause a significant change and I believe this will make it less likely to happen. You WILL come down. If you must use a drug to try and change your mental habits take a traditional psychadelic, use this website to teach you to grow mushrooms:thumbup:

A satisfying new hobby which promotes patience and attentiveness...

Better yet, begin practicing one of the only real cures for depression: regular backbreaking exercise.

Good luck:heart:

I do exercise regularly.  Not just the gym but get out for walks often.  It isn't a cureall though.  It often gets preached like it is but it isn't.

I also play guitar, bass, and drums.  Not just play, but also write music.  I read books.  I go to school.  I talk to friends, I go out with friends, I see family, I do yoga... just because I'm depressed doesn't mean I'm sitting around feeling sorry for myself.  I'm expressing how frustrating it is for me to be doing so many things and NOT feel better.

I've been to the doctor for meds.  It doesn't help.  I've been to psychiatrists and group therapy.  It gives me insight into my matter and gives me a better understanding of it, but it does not make it any easier to cope with.  It just makes it seem MORE like a disease that I can't cure and less like something I will break through.

I guess I got the feedback I was looking for.  Everyone has their opinion on how to fix things, if these things suggested have worked for people and they've never looked back then I envy you.  I seriously hope you never have to feel the way I do, where you put your nose to the grindstone and do not feel an inkling of relief.  I don't know if tripping will make me better or worse, but I need to do it anyway.  I'm backed into a corner, I'm not big on drugs, but if it's that or killing myself then I might as well do it and see.  If I do end up dying, at least I'll potentially feel pretty fucking incredible before it happens.

Take care everyone.  I like people, but know I likely sound bitter.  It's just because I'm angry at people for being able to provide advice, but the majority of what's preached has been preached before.  I am taking it to heart.  I have put a ton of effort into this and am working my ass off.  It just isn't working, dammit.  I could be starving somewhere, I could have cancer, but at least then my condition would be definitive.  With this, I just waste away, and so many people fail to understand it.

I don't know what to say, man. It sounds like a very rough position... I get very, very low sometimes, too.

Life sucks. Maybe you could approach your depression with the attitude that it is not a problem to be fixed. This might seem defeatist, but it's possible you're creating more misery by trying to pull yourself out of the hole. It could be time to take a good hard look at the hole and say it's home, at least for the time being...

When something has to change it always does...

I have read quite a lot on treating using MDMA for these sort of problems, although I have never tried the substance myself.

It sounds like there's a lot of potential for a good outcome really and you're really not very likely to get any worse at all. It's claimed a single dose of MDMA can do the equivalent of 3 months of traditional therapy  I definitely recommend giving it a shot. Have psychedelics as your backup plan imo, they're hard to work with and unpredictable, especially for a new user.

The general recommended therapeutic dose is 120-150mg followed by a 40-50mg booster 2 hours after the initial dose. Stick to this, it's been tried and tested and it works. Perhaps if you are significantly overweight I would raise the dose accordingly, otherwise you should be fine.

If you do go along with this, which I highly recommend you do - make sure you get pure MDMA. Make sure it's not cut with ANYTHING. Tester kits available to order from the internet. Most of/if not all success stories I have read have been from pure MDMA and nothing else so this is why I'm placing a big emphasis on finding a good source.
