No sign of myc 20 days after inoculation, toss jars?
    #15034093 -

Hello!

My very foist grow is currently underway. I'm using the PF tek, I inoculated five BRF jars on Aug. 16 with PF Classic.

Now, I know I made the noob mistake of somehow injecting less than 1cc out of my MS syringe in at least one of the jars (as I have more cc's left in the syringe than I should)  :facepalm3: But I've read that less than 1cc is excusable, so I decided to wait and see what happened.

Well, 20 days later, Jar 1 is approximately 35-40% colonized. Jar 4 is approx. 25-30% colonized, but Jars 2, 3 and 5 are pure BRF. No signs of myc in Jars 2, 3 or 5 at all.

Should I keep waiting for myc in these three jars, or toss em and start anew?

If I should keep waiting, should I separate these non-colonizing jars from the two which are colonizing?

What's the longest time you've had to wait for myc to begin noticeable colonization in your BRF jars?

Also, both of the jars which are showing growth are only doing so on one side of the jar, rather than at each inoculation point. Is this normal?

Here's Jars 1 and 4, for your viewing pleasure/expert critique:

I would toss them, but I'm sure some cheap as will come and say SAVE THE CAKES! It's really to inexpensive to just let those things sit. If no signs show within 2 weeks, more then likely there is something going on you cannot see. A Contaminate. Just start over. As for the other 2 jars. Did you pack your Substrate too tightly into the jar? I had that problem once, realized thats what had caused it. Did you be sure to shake the shit out of your Syringe before using?

Do NOT do this, lord only knows what contam you could be harboring. If you feel you must be cheap. Re Sterilize them before Inoculating again.

I want to add if you are seeing colonization, the fact you used less than 1cc is not your issue (in my opinion). I had a set of jars that went too slow/didn't go..it was my 1st dozen I made. And packing them by banging them on the table gently packed the substrate so tight it was caked in there even with no colonization after PCing it.

I always use 1 syringe for a dozen jars.. so that's not that much less than 1cc but it is slightly. I noticed that even if I shoot 2 cc into a jar, the speed is the same..there is absolutely no benefit to be had..just waste. (my opinion)

Honestly, you did your self a favor using less than if you had done what some people do and shoot a whole syringe into a jar which could affect your moisture in a bad way.

Lol, I just posted something very similar

I'm going to leave my one un colonized jar alone but re inoculating sounds intriguing

I've done this. Complete waste of time. Chances are it wasn't your syringe (especially if you bought it from a vendor).

If they didn't go the 1st time they won't the 2nd. I wasted a syringe and another 2 weeks on those jars I mentioned above  We all gotto learn right!

I may have packed the substrate too tightly while lightly pushing down to get all the BRF and verm off the top 1/2" of jar. I was careful to keep it fluffy, but I am a noob.

I'll toss the three jars with no growth and start over

Thx guis.

Usually if they're not growing IME it's due to the sub being packed too tight. You wont know unless you open them, but you'll get the feel once you do.
As long as you seen some solution go into the jars, it probably wasn't due to your inoculation.

You should buy some QT jars and rye grain/berries and case some rye. It's easier than the PF tek IMO.

I dumped the jars, and they were rather dense.

Interesting, do you have a link to the tek you're referring to?

Its so easy, I can type it faster than I could refer you. You find/buy dry Rye Berries at a natural store of some sort. Boil them until a FEW start opening up and all are soft. Load them in to 1 QT jars with modified lids (you can search how to make those, simple) PC the jars for 60-90 mins @ 15 psi. Wait to cool, inject spores in, wait a week until jar is half colonized, shake to distribute. Wait another week until jar is 100%, dump jars into foil/plastic/glass pans (cake/lasagna pans)spread even, cover with even casing layer, incubate, fruit in FC....tons of easy mushrooms.
