How long is too long for jars to be ready?
    #362528 - 07/28/01 01:29 PM (22 years, 2 months ago)

If any of you get tired of my newcomer-type questions, please feel free to post some recommended books on my other thread :)

It is almost a month since I innoculated 10 1 pint jars- 5 with organic rice flour+ verm, 5 with organic rye flour+ verm.

Since I made some nail-holes in them a few days ago, 1 jar in particular has taken off and is close to 100% ready. The others . . . . all are showing some signs (but 1) but not much, and they havn't really improved much since popping the holes.

My question is- how much longer should I wait? Is there a maximum time for jars getting innoculated? Is there a penalty for taking less than 30% done jars and casing them anyways?

Any help is appreciated. The max time is my real question- I don't want to keep waiting for longer than advisable.

Thanks
Abe

Some strains take extremely long to show any signs of growth, Patience is the name of the game. I inoculated my jars roughly a month ago and now are only showing signs of growth. Im not sure if there is a max time to wait maybe someone elsa knows?

As long as they dont dry out there is no problem - but the longer they take, the more time there is contaminate
