Georgetown vs. China? BasketBRAWL?
    #14947687 -

Apparently the Georgetown mens basketball team took a trip to china for a Goodwill game vs. one of their teams over there.  The trip was to coincide with a visit by Joe Biden.  I'm not exactly sure what happened (I found a news article, but it was short and void of details) but the benches cleared and the Georgetown players got into a bit of a brawl with the opponents -- of which there were many more (damn chinese!).

Gtown walked off teh court, while water bottles got thrown at them by the crowd.  Anyone know the origin of this?  Why did it break out?  Its a shame them bignigs didn't handle those little chinamen.

The Chinese were probably getting pissed that their professional team was getting beat by a US college team

well depending how long this lockout lasts, those roles may be reversed in a couple years.

either way, that picture is hilarious.

I doubt it. America will still produce the best players, they just might end up playing their professional careers outside the country

I dont think there will be a lockout anyways.

I understand the national pride of wanting to believe America still rules in the sport they created.

But the truth is, other countries are catching up at a rapid rate, and have already surpassed many American players.

I will agree that the other countries are producing more and more good players, but there is no way they are surpassing the American players

Its not like every single player from one country is better than every single player from another country.

But theres ALOT of all star caliber players coming from across seas now.  And I believe it will get to the point towards where it is in Baseball currently, with almost the grand majority of top tier players coming from other countries.

Now when it comes to a sport like....football.  I'd love to see international competition gradually get better.  Cuz then maybe we could finally have football as an olympic sport, and create an NFL dream team.

well no shit. I still feel like the US produces more talent and on average better players. Just because other countries put out a couple all-stars doesnt all of a sudden mean that the US is being surpassed by them. There is a reason the US wins Gold medals all the time in basketball even with some of the disadvantages the US players face in comparison to the international players.

I think the thread speaks for itself. When you have one of our good college basketball programs go over there and beat Chinese professional players

I mean the 2004 team may not have been the greatest version of the Dream Team, but they still had league MVPs, multiple all stars, carmelo anthony, lebron james, and dwayne wade,  and that team got their asses handed soundly by countries that haven't even had a professional league for more than a decade.

In 2008 they had to literally pluck every single one of the absolute best American players to win the Gold.  And again they're facing countries that haven't had a professional basketball league for more than a decade or so.

But I won't argue that the college teams being sent over WERENT whooping professional China Teams' asses, as they soundly were.  And yeah, the officiating was turning into complete BS for the sake of the Chinese teams to not feel as humiliated.

In the grand scheme of things though, international competition in basketball is progressing super quickly.

I mean look at BBall in the 1980's or 90s.  The thought of a European player or Asian player making an NBA all star team was completely absurd.  Now they're some of the top players in the game today, and some are being taken with higher spots in the draft than the VERY BEST college prospects in various draft classes.

I can jive with that

I was actually thinking we might see a new game all together with the potential NBA lockout (it wont happen) and all the NBA players that were talking about playing in China and over in Europe. That would completely change the face of the game if you were to have NBA stars all of a sudden playing for international teams. Maybe the formation of a World League and end up reducing the amount of US-based teams. Would actually make the game more exciting, imo.

They could have it setup like England's soccer league. Where you have "x" amount of teams in the "premiere" league, then teams in lower leagues and every year you would adjust the leagues based on performance.

Oh totally,

international competition in the sport would make things 10 times more interesting.

And this whole discussion made me fantasize about football being an olympic sport.  I'd love to assemble an NFL Dream Team to send over to other countries to compete.

Could you imagine that WR tandem?  You'd have like, Calvin Johnson, Larry Fitz, Andre Johnson lining up together.

Could you imagine that SECONDARY?  Nnamdi and Revis covering the corners, Troy Polamalu and Ed Reed playing the deep two...

I'm getting a hard on.

Have you seen the crowds when the NFL goes over to england(their huge!)? They fucking love it, but have no idea whats going on cheering at inappropriate times and such. Football as an international sport, my dicks hard just thinking about such a thing. It would be glorious and we would own the rest of the competition for a long-long time.
