What are these puffy white beauts...

Saw this shroom for the past couple days driving past it.. thinking 'hmm...I'm pretty sure that's a mushroom"

So today I decided to get out and take a few pics.. then I saw that there were several more around it.. one being trampled and squished open (revealing yellow inside?)

But the real neato is the last pic...







None of the above ^^ had stems.. so I thought "maybe they are puff balls" and since incorrect ID of puff balls causes a ton of poisonings from destroying angels, I decided to just leave them be. But then I let my dog out tonight and stumbled upon this one:









any ideas?

thanks (PS this last one was under a pine tree on a lawn where dogs pee and poo)

I have some growing around my house; Once they open up they will not have gills but instead a weird like...porous material. If you break one you'll notice it bleeds red. Idk what they are I was wondering the same thing myself.

I'm not sure the last one should be grouped with the firsts.. it has a stem and they don't.. plus I found a little one growing near it..

It's funny that you're asking for input on an ID request that requires more input on your part. Like most things in life you're going to get out of the Shroomery, what you put into it.

To answer your question; maybe toxic, probably not edible, definitely not active, and they never will be. Not as long as you go around picking random mushrooms hoping they're active, so you don't have to ask that anymore.:wink:

Picking random mushrooms is not going to find you actives and taking undetailed photos of mushroom caps is no way to properly ID mushrooms, so I'd say that a little research and reading on your part is in order so you can help us help you.

I didnt pick them. Hence no spore print, no cut in half, pics from top angle etc..

I tend to want to let things live if i can.

Here's where im coming from, these last two look so awesome and so stout that i figured someone may recognize them right off the bat. If not its not a big deal because i have no plans to eat it unless someone were to come on here and say for certain it was active.

It seems there is this vibe on this particular part of the board, i dont know how to really describe it.. but I've been pointed to that link a couple of times, the one that talks about trapesing around picking random mushrooms and then asking if they are active (like hitting the lottery, etc..) it was ok the first time, but after a couple times it's really rather condescending and rude.

I'm just having a fun time taking pics of mushrooms, lately I've fallen in love with everything about them.. regardless of whether they are active, edible or otherwise. I find them fascinating, and I love taking pictures of them. They are so beautiful and complex. Anyway, I think I'm being taken the wrong way a lot of times on here.

No one is forcing anyone to make any guesses etc..

I'm not over here banging my fists on the table demanding information. I'm simply curious and fascinated and somewhat obsessed. I dream about them when I sleep, I think about them when I'm awake, I draw them in art, I write poems about them, I'm finding that no matter where I am, I am looking around.

The wonderful thing is that where I live, it's hard to go 100 meters without seeing a mushroom of some type.

I'm in the process of growing my own, so my goal of finding actives in the wild has shifted and somewhat waned. If I do, I do. If I don't, whatever.. because I am about to have all I can handle (if everything goes right).

Anyway, I hope this didn't come off as rude. I'm not upset with anyone, I just want to stop being stereo-typed with everyone else on here that posts.

Chlorophyllum species I believe, since the spores are white (Not greenish) I think it should be edible.  But please don't trust me on that, especially since I am no where near familiar with German mushrooms. :smile:

Edit:  Maybe C. rhacodes?  And did the stem stain reddish when you cut it off to do the spore print?

Beautiful mushroom, and probably delicious, but just like i have no desire to drink non-alcoholic beer, nor caffeine free Mountain Dew, I have no desire to eat inactive mushrooms.

Of course this has nothing to do with the fact that I bought two portabella mushrooms last week (fully intending to grill them like steaks) and never got around to it and had to throw them away...


I still trust the grocery store more-so than myself. :laugh:
