Robin Williams sentenced to Three years' jail for LSD possession

SAN DIEGO- Stand-Up Comedian Robin Williams was sentenced to three years' imprisonment in San Diego County Jail for possessing LSD for supply, despite claiming the drug was no longer the highly hallucinogenic concoction it was 30 years ago.

Robin McLaurim Williams appeared for sentencing before San Diego County Superior Court Judge Linda Quinn after admitting possessing the class A drug for supply earlier last month. William's lawyer, Roger Eagles, said Williams was caught with 181 LSD tablets, for which he had paid $2000. While he acknowledged there was a commerciality to the set up, he planned to sell the tablets to fund his own habit, rather than make serious money, Mr Eagles said.

Williams had also claimed the drug was not as strong as the version prevalent in the 1970s.

Judge Quinn said regardless what Williams claimed as to the strength of the drug, there was no scientific evidence before the court to support his claim.

The LSD had an estimated street value of between $15 and $25 per tablet and while he initially claimed he was simply the drug courier, Williams had since accepted he stood to profit from its sale. Jail was the appropriate sentence for William's offending but it was hoped the Parole Board and Corrections Department would investigate any drug rehabilitation he might need.

Judge Quinn also advised Williams to look at the people he associated with to avoid reoffending.

Another example of how the rich and famous don't have to be held to the same legal standard the rest of us do.

Williams is great, but he should serve the decade-plus we'd all get slammed with. He even admitted to distribution.

as much as this suck for robin williams, and I don't mean to be a heartless pragmatist here, this could be an overall positive in the fight toward legalization. let's face it, the majority of americans love robin williams and would not feel good about locking him up. this could be a cause celebre people! Also totally agree with this.  Not only should no one get arrested for possesing a mother fucking chemical, people distributing quality lsd should get government benefits if anything.
