fuckin fleas man

somehow a bunch of them got into my apartment and are in the carpet. i just sat down on the step that leads from my bedroom to my living room to answer a text and literally within 15 seconds i saw 5 jump up onto my legs. my carpet was just professionally cleaned on june 30th and there aren't any pets here, i'm lost as to how they managed to infiltrate it so badly. screw these little bugs

I had the exact same thing happen at my old apartment. Went to Home Depot and bought a big 1 gallon jug of some Hot Shot pesticide with a sprayer attached to a hose. Sprayed around the perimeter of the room and under my bed... Within a week they were all dead. Might wanna give that a try because it's going to be a bitch trying to sleep when they are biting you. Trust me, I know.

Oh god. One night a friend and I were incredibly fucked up and had no where to go so we went to our other friends old abandoned house. We go lay down on the couches in there and shit and keep feeling like we are getting bitten but ignore it. Then we luck at our legs and there were so many fleas I saw more black than skin. We booked it out of the house but I was getting bit still for the next few hours.

A good spraying of pesticides, thorough vacuuming and treating any furry pets will solve that little problem. I had a ferocious flea problem last year, but I put some of that Advantage for cats on him and voila! No more fleas.

ugh, I hate fleas! They are really difficult to get rid of. The thing you have to do is vacuum vacuum vacuum, like do it 2 or 3 times a day and when you aren't using it, keep the vacuum bag in a bag in the freezer. Do this for 3 weeks, vacuum the floors and also the sofa and chairs, under the cushions and in the cracks. Wash all your bed linens and curtains in hot hot water.

Also, get this stuff called Food Grade diatomaceous earth (the non-food grade sort is really bad for you). Sprinkle it lightly literally all over your house. If you have carpets, use a soft-bristled broom to work it into the carpet, reapply every few days because you will vacuum it up. If you have wood floors, sweep it around the baseboards and into the cracks, sprinkle it on your lawn.

The secret to getting rid of fleas is not to let up. They are awful because they lay so many eggs and have a ridiculously short life/reproductive cycle so if they seem to be not biting for a day or two, more will hatch. The eggs can also lay dormant so you have to keep going with the anti-flea routine for 3 weeks. I usually go totally commando on those motherfuckers for 2 weeks and the last week I just make sure to vacuum everyday and it's sufficient.

We used to get them really bad and I think I have finally gotten rid of them (knock on wood). I just am especially vigilant in May, when flea season starts around here. I make sure the cats are all treated, vacuum every other day or so, make sure to vacuum the couch and re-do a layer of Diatomaceous Earth around the house and yard.

Distomaceous earth didn't work AT ALL for me.  I put the shit everywhere and it didn't do a god damned thing.




I buy Hartz carpet spray, better would be some more industrial, larger container type shit.


Spray the fuck out of wherever they are and make sure you and your pets are no where near; wash pets every 3 days at least until the problem is GONE (not dissipating).




Fleas and mosquitos don't bother me NEARLY as much as ticks do though.  Ticks are probably some of the worst animals ever.

I don't have a vacuum at the moment. Going to get the pesticide stuff today though. I seriously can't even walk across the carpet to the next room without having at least one jump up onto me. I'm spendin all my time in the kitchen or on elevated pieces of furniture. Luckily they are completely restricted to the carpet...

Pro-tip:


If you've got fleas really bad, put on some old school gym socks (the ones that come up as high as possible) that are white and get a roll of duct tape.


Flea jumping distances mean they can only ever jump up as high as say your shins or so.  White socks makes them easy to spot.

Duct tape fastens them and a single strip can hold dozens of fleas.


Fuck their day up.

Btw - this is not a long term solution.  Fleas can live for months without a feeding and new eggs are being lain all the time.




I DEFINITELY went from like 25 fleas per trip to 20 to 10 and on down to none though using spray and then using this method to gauge how prolific the infestation was/monitoring how it winded down.

My cat had brought a flea infestation one time, and I looked for pesticide solutions, and the price of the stuff especially for the purpose made me say the Dutch equivalent of Fuck No out loud in the petstore.

I went to the florists instead and selected a can for houseplants that contained natural pyrethrum flowers extract as the insecticide. It cost 1/10 of the petstore stuff.

I sprayed the carpet and it killed them dead, no flareup came after.

Natural pyrethrum flowers extract. Works like a charm, dirt cheap and no organochlor crap.

Try the pet aisle for flea spray?
I have a cat and we had a pretty bad problem with them last year, fuckers were everywhere, damn flea bites every day. Got some of dat flea spray, hoovered and cleaned everything (and in my case, got the cat a flea collar and stuff for it) and bang, never had them since.
