Why would he waste time publishing the examples of people who refused to debate him.. theres no gain, no advancement.

Its obvious that religious people take every opportunity to point out every debate Dawkins refused to partake in, but thats low brow personal attacks, the fact of the matter is a religious debate between Dawkins and  a "tough target" like an academic theologian would be pointless, the evidence is there to prove evolution, anyone who denies that fact is utterly ignorant to basic science

and I may be able to find a video of him saying something similar in a minute.

Can we hear a debate between Dawkins and a Christian who believes in evolution and thinks creationists are full of shit? Because most of them do.

This isn't a debate of atheism vs. theism, it's a debate of knowledge vs. ignorance. IMO the battle lines have been drawn in all the wrong places.

Nice copout.  I don't think any serious academic theologian would debate him on evolution.  That'd be silly.  But they could demolish his frequent assertions about religious moderates providing cover for the extremists.  I know that serious academic theologians are not afraid to debate Dawkins, because they've debated Daniel Dennett and Christopher Hitchens, both of whom are much more competent debaters than Dawkins.

Richard Dawkins is a horrible philosopher and thus a horrible proponent of atheism. A complete amature. He should stick to his field of expertise: biology.

And recently Dawkins has been running away from a man named Dr. William Lane Craig.

Dawkins explaining why he won't debate Craig:

An interesting reason because he has debated people who aren't priests, bishops, etc., in the past.

Here's another video of Craig listing some arguments for God's existence:

And here's a video somebody created illustrating Dawkins' lies, cowardice, and hypocrisy:

And here's Dr. Craig's website: www.reasonablefaith.org

are you saying that there are not religious martyrs that have and will continue to act violently in the name of religion?

is it not an extreme penalty (death)  for apostasy (leaving religion, or accepting another religion)  in islam ?

In western culture the religious extremists are no more than professional con-men fully capable of herding people, taking there money and telling them things that make them feel good

reasons 1-3 are the exact same things worded slightly differently,

to imply because of god we have morals is ridiculous, watch a mother gorilla or crocodile protect their young, is that instict or morals? Is how humans behave instict or morals? We are a social animal that originated in small packs, we had to "scratch each others backs" if we wanted our own back scratched, this is the basis for the development of morals among humans

reason 5. god is a possibility, god exists, :ilold:

the flying spaghetti monster is a possibility, the flying spaghetti monster exists.

6. personal experience

often exaggerated and misunderstood, Ive had countless unexplainable psychedelic experiences, none of which are instantly a possibility because of it,

In the beginning, we were all fish. Okay? Swimming around in the
water. And then one day a couple of fish had a retard baby, and the
retard baby was different, so it got to live. So Retard Fish goes on
to make more retard babies, and then one day, a retard baby fish
crawled out of the ocean with its......mutant fish hands... and it
had butt sex with a squirrel or something and made this Retard
frog-sqirrel, and then *that* had a retard baby which was a...
monkey-fish-frog... And then this monkey-fish-frog had butt sex with
that monkey, and that monkey had a mutant retard baby that screwed
another monkey... and that made you!

So there you go! You're the retarded offspring of five monkeys having butt sex with a fish-squirrel! Congratulations!

I presume you're referring to the ontological argument.

1. It’s possible that an all-surpassingly great being exists (i.e. a being greater than which nothing can be conceived). In other words, an all-surpassingly great being exists in some possible world.

2. If an all-surpassingly great being exists in some possible world, then it exists in every possible world.

3. If an all-surpassingly great being in every possible world, then it exists in the actual world (since the actual world is clearly a possible world).

4. If an all-surpassingly great being exists in the actual world, then an all-surpassingly great being actually exists.

What's wrong with the argument?

Quote:
to imply because of god we have morals is ridiculous, watch a mother gorilla or crocodile protect their young, is that instict or morals?

Most human beings believe that certain things are wrong. For instance, randomly torturing and murdering children. Most people would say that this sort of conduct is objectively wrong. In other words, this sort of thing is wrong no matter what, even if all human beings were brainwashed into thinking otherwise.

1. If objective moral values do not exist, then God does not exist.
2. Objective moral values do exist.
3. Therefore, God exists.

Quote:
Is how humans behave instict or morals? We are a social animal that originated in small packs, we had to "scratch each others backs" if we wanted our own back scratched, this is the basis for the development of morals among humans

I think evolution was ultimately created by God, so it doesn't surprise me in the least bit that beings such as us evolved who feel certain things are objectively wrong or good.

But we're not talking about drug-induced experiences.

Also, you forgot to address the part of my post in which I showed that Dawkins is afraid to debate WILLIAM LANE CRAIG. *bawk* *bawk* *bawk*

i agree. dawkins has his facts straight about evolution but would have a very tough time debating a scholar on religion. but really, i don't think dawkins picks the easy targets as much as he tends to target the religious extremists who, in my opinion, deserve his brand of ridicule.

personally, i would like to see academics confronting these idiots rather than hardline atheists like dawkins. from what little time i've spent formally studying religion, the sentiment that these people are fools is there, but for some reason there seems to be no drive to put them in their place. i don't get it.

I also agree that Dawkins is a poor debater.
He's an evolutionist and atheist who calls upon Pathos rather than Logos, which is contradictory to his movement. I think he should stop his debates because all he's doing is making members of his movement appear to be pompous asses.
The points he usually makes are correct, but his opponents often make very true points that he is disrespectful in his arguments, and people are much less likely to take heed of his words if he is talking down to them.
