Futons are fucking garbage.

They always fall apart and break down into uncomfortable bullshit.

Get a real bed.

The cushions/mattress' always suck. Better than nothing i guess if you are just using a pad or blankets for a mattress.

I am pretty sure you could find a cheap couch on craiglist or something and just buy a the cheapest bed on sale at some bed store. A lot of them won't have every bed on the showroom, just ask what they have one the cheap. I think I paid 200 for a matress and box spring set.

Besides even if you needed a couch just put your bed there and get a bunch of pillows and use the bed as a lounging style couch. Besides, if you get a chick over to watch a flick you are already on the bed.

Some futons can be nice.

We have a pretty awesome futon store in town where I got the one we have in our game room.

I've slept on it before, it's pretty comfortable.

The thought of a futon used to be really appealing to me. I mean it's a fucking couch and a bed. But then I slept on one for about a year, and I started sleeping on the floor because it started to hurt my back really bad. Granted, it was a cheap one. So if you go through with it buy a nice one at least.

I've never experienced a futon that was at all comfortable as a bed.  they're fine as couches, but i could never get a decent nights sleep on one.  I have the most comfortable bed in the world so i guess i'm prejudiced.. but god damn, ever futon's "mattress" that I've ever laid on has been so hard and lumpy. they can be soft for about 5 minutes, then your body weight compacts the padding inside the damn thing and its like trying to sleep on a bag of potting soil.

my girlfriend used to have a tempur-pedic firm version, the one thats extra hard and i always got the worst sleep on that thing.  hated it. it was so damn hard. i would wake up at like 4am every time i slept there and be unable to get comfortable enough to fall asleep again.  fuck tempur pedic firm mattresses.

I had a futon for a few years.

I was comfortable but the spring mechanism fucked up at some point and it was hard to get it to go to couch/bed mode. Took like 5 minutes everytime.
